In Ober-Roden, just out of Frankfurt Germany, the finest ciders in the world are made. On this day a long long time ago the town saw the birth of the finest Master Baker to grace our shores, our very own Andre Arndt. During the great milk shortage of 1969, cider replaced milk for the young children of the town, culminating in Andre’s finest athletic achievement, a bronze medal in the 50m breast stroke in the State championships.
The biggest change in Andre’s life (other than joining the BnB) was whilst working in a frozen dough factory in Taipei. The boss’s granddaughter and her young friend Midori (Andre assures me she was over the age of 18) came to visit, after hearing of the prowess and dashedly good looks of their German super baker. And thus Andre’s was rescued by love from a life of vice and corruption and too many sesame bagels.
Decided to park at the point today with Go Pro. Like a pack of wild animals the Drinks Express herd rapidly approached and then overwhelmed me. Spray and pounding bodies everywhere.
Daylight licked me into shape. I must've been asleep for days
And found myself alone, alone, Alone above a raging sea
Miracle. Caroline following Gary, caught a wave, tumbled, righted herself upside down on the rocks. Lost her Extra speedy googles only to find them on the way in.
Caroline's Pitch Report
Loads of people today at Shelly. Like truck fulls. All for Andre of course. Choose your feet leaving. Biased towards one who will plough through. Cuttlefish at Shelly. 630am line breakers disappoint Trooper. Post DX swim has Sneaky with his new run gang. English Kate, Simone, Chris J and Baby Spice (Caroline's new nickname). We can all run on misery together.
Switch forward 24 years, now a proud Aussie, our magnificent Master Baker graces with his presence every day, plys us with the latest culinary sweet, and uplifts us with his zany, optimistic, loveable and irresistable charm. Happy Birthday Andre. You are a gem!
Thanks for the swim and coffee Team. Thanks also to the Drinks Express for somehow not leaving me as roadkill on the point filming. There were a few close calls. Remember don't let your true love run cold!
