Thankfully I still have my bag, for now. The lifeguards said a bag a day had been stolen recently, and even more on the weekend which is not good. Perhaps the new surf club will include a safe space for bags!?
Anyway on a more positive note the water was a lovely 21.6c, no jellies but a bit licey. It was a bumpy ride though not too rough. Viz wasn't too bad, lots of fish about and just as we'd complained there was any big ticket items about someone pointed out a big ray at the point.
Small crowd getting ready. Maybe people were put off by the dark, threatening clouds but we got lucky and had no rain.
Welcome board but Ian wasn't happy with the serious face so took a happy shot !
7.30pm Ain Salah, Algeria, July 1992. The hottest place on the planet at the hottest time of the year. A motely crew of mad Englishmen arrive on their mountain bikes after crossing the Sahara Desert. A crescent moon rises over the desert. And the temperature starts to cool from the 46.5 degrees. Will, also known lovingly to the FFF as Rubberman, remembers this day well. It is the last day he remembers being warm.
The first rule of FFF, no rubber, is again breached by Rubberman. Push ups ensure. A legend has been born.
As Guy posts 21 degrees in chalky on the watery pipe, Rubberman dons the 5mm thick wetsuit, with vest and wet suit hoodie. Now it's almost summer the booties have been left in the bag.
An epic adventurer, Rubberman is a Machine Man, belonging to one of the finest swim groups at the wall. Mighty lovers, raconteurs, gamblers, sometime swimmers, purveyors of fine liquors. Like an unruly flash mob we come together most days, when we can get past the bleary hangover and long Banker lunches. Much like the FFF every Friday.
The sky was bright with the satellites
Caroline's Pitch Report
21 we have reached 21 degrees. Ian and the Baker out at 5.30am. Joined them at 6 with Snoopy to battle the sea lice. Make your choice. In the middle with sea lice... or around the edge with sea lice and fish. Beside being itchy, the ocean is calm. A couple of showers making the surface glassy. Keen 548ers Kylie, Millie and Murray discovered an 8 foot long jimble and some wear the scars from the discovery. Veteran swimmer Mary with 6th time swimmer Harry, saw a wobby first swim, a turtle and loads of fish 2nd swim and a breaching whale. I'm expecting a pod of dolphins next. Viz average in the middle, not bad, not great. Joining the FFFs Blocky and Trooper try to teach the unteachable.
Hear the sound of the cars downtown. As the lighthouse sweeps its arms around
Thanks for the swim and coffee Team. Remember don't let your true love run cold! (or wear a wet suit).
Cheers,
Rusty the Fish and Carolinebythebeach
Chippo's wetsuit wiki:
Back in the 1830s, Charles Goodyear accidentally left a mixture of rubber and sulfur on a hot stove. Imagine his surprise when he discovered that instead of a kitchen disaster, he had stumbled upon the process of vulcanization, making rubber more durable and bouncy. It's like nature's way of saying, "Here, have a stretchier life!" 🌟
Rubber wetsuits, the unsung heroes of aquatic insulation! It's like wearing a cozy hug from a friendly sea creature. Imagine being wrapped in a rubbery fortress, shielding you from the ocean's chilly antics. These wetsuits are the VIPs of warmth, the knights in shining neoprene, bravely battling the cold to keep you toasty while you conquer the waves. It's like having your personal hot tub, but with added style and a touch of underwater flair.
for that snippet of brilliance Chippo.. a song for you for the ride home:

It was a fun frolic in the waves for some of us this morning! Other swimmers braved the surf, currents and threat of Jimbles and others went to halfway or Shelly. Water felt a lot warmer at 20.3 but if you're only in for 10 minutes like me it would wouldn't it!
Merrilee and Kathryn about to do some paddling in that wild ocean. What brave, fit and fearless women!
Who can recognise this amazing woman with her new seaweed wig?
Dave and Marco braved the perils of the ocean
Ro's head is submerged on the left! Such fun in the waves!
Mitch copped a Jimble
Andre the Master Baker might have got a couple but it doesn't bother him!
Driver
Tommo went for a frolic too!
We're so lucky we get to swim with these fine looking celebrities each day too!
Who do these two remind you of?
A great swim in the rain was had by all today! Don't let gloomy weather put you off!

Wednesday 15th November - 2 weeks until Summer (and the summer badge blast commences)), 4 weeks until the B&B Xmas party, 6.5 weeks to go for this year and holiday time! Seems like everyone and everything is "feeling it" from the weather to swimmers to canines and felines and everyone & everything in between. Even the dreaded jimbles are becoming (thankfully) lazy and perhaps they are refusing to muster up to terrify us, with one or two eager beavers making up for the rest (as some of our swimmers found out today!)?
todays conditions:
water temp - balmy 20.3 (however, neoprene is still very much visible!)
air temp at 7am - 22.8!!! summer is coming!
Conditions - feels like even the water is waiting for this year to end, a few lacklustre waves, a bit of a lacklustre swell, and fairly good visibility
Vibe - bring on the holidays!
Its Kara's birthday so the Drinks Express celebrated with cake of course
These energetic mermaids Petra, Susie, Simone & Tracey had a lovely energising swim, Petra and Tracey after running and Simone after a sensational sail last night, crewing to another podium!
Robby and Lindsay were looking forward to a sea immersion to energise them
WOWs Georgina, Debbie, Fiona and Clare were all smiles after their immersion, and Debbie was gallantly smiling after her jimble kiss !
susu, Steph & Leah weren’t feeling it this morning however they were glad they went out !
Barbie enjoyed her daily morning walk along the beachfront, looking stylish in new rain attire!
as always, be safe, stay kind, look after each other, look out for each other & have a wonderful Wednesday!

What a morning! We had sunshine, calm water, no stingers and fair visibility. It was a beautiful swim with water temp at 18.1. A lot of regular swimmers were back from overseas trips like Dr Michele above who did the entire Comino walk with partner Martin!
These are the 5.48amers that are swimming to Shelly then meeting up with the 6.09ers at the Trident!
6am and the beach is getting busy
Andre has just finished his 6km sand run and what he is actually doing here with Ian is beyond me but captions welcome!
Groper and his mate Maori wrasse at Shelly
Smooth Stingray
I didn't see a lot today even though viz was 7 metres in places but a gorgeous Wobbie did swim beneath me!
The 7am swimmers at Shelly and it's "Let's Go!"
Ro and Di are back from Italy
Tony is back from Jordan and Michele back from France and Spain
It's Sarah and Jon's 42nd wedding anniversary today. Congrats guys!
