One word. Joy. So good to have Andre back amongst us.

Sophia also back after a very civilized European visit..including a half marathon. Well done.

Also back is the action event of the week... the FFF... remember 625am on the ramp. Every Friday. Blocky lays down the rules, we do our best to break them.

Rants and runs and swims. Bet the house and gamble responsibly.

Look close the rain starts to fall. But the man with the golden tonsils takes us away to a warmer clime.

Just when we thought warmer temps were coming our way, we dip below 18C

But the cheer was unstoppable as the Master Baker makes a delicious return

Dx head out to discover between shore and point, a downpour had began

Conditions are average. The visibility is about 5m. The water is kind of flat. Ian spotted a jimble and swam for NZ

The return was tough - heavy water.

Felt happier when the Terminator and fellow Dx’s agreed.

Wednesday 25th October - Weird Wednesday in the Bay!

Wednesday 25th October - seemed full of "weirdness" for some reason.  Firstly the sky was weirdly eerie - a red dawn followed by a thickening cloud stealthily slowly blanketing the city from the south, transforming the seas from calm to calamity .... Perhaps also due to the advent of "Scorpio season"  (which started on Monday) which the astrologer aficionados in the community would understand... apparently Scorpio season is marked by intense energy, deep renewal and transformation...  this can be somewhat unsettling, and also energising depending on your situation and perspective.   AND, lets not forget the weirdness of Halloween this weekend - all those chocolates on special in Coles and woollies giving sugar hits to kids and big kids alike (necessitating more swimming to counter the candy!), dress ups in weird and scary costumes and scary (and imaginative) house decorations (please refrain from using the fake spiders webbing as our animal and bird and bug friends get caught!).

So, onto today.  

water temperature:  19.2 degrees

air temperature at 7am: 16.4 degrees 

conditions:  calm (until the southerly hit)

vibe:  eerily calm... 

Todays weirdness extended into the Bay

Amanda, Ruth and Carolyn found the transitions from cold to warm patches quite unsettling... and a few waves out of nowhere to push them back into shore.

Elizabeth swept the sand from the steps so it wouldn't encroach into her bag and shoes!

Rayner and jo - Rayner slept in and missed his swim date and hopes his swim date doesn't see this blog!

lainey, Lenore and Mike - found the bay eerily quiet!

WOW's - Annette had her first swim with the B&B in July and has returned every week since!  She doesn't find the B&B weird at all! 

DC arrived at the beach to a red ball of fire, then rode to Church point and back with the "tour de cure" crew -weirdly still smiling after that massive effort -  not so weirdly he was still up for a dip!

Mermaids found the conditions spooky with the eerie light and calmness before the "storm" so to speak...

Lainey and Ted are looking forward to seeing everyone on friday evening!  

And Ruby - well, she is thinking everyone is so weird putting clothes on!

Tuesday 24th Oct - Glorious day

Making the most of today's good weather with a sunny forecast of 27c as Thursday's forecast of a rainy 16c is not so appealing.

Melissa (love her vibrant dresses) and Henrietta welcoming newbie, Meg, who has just arrived from the UK and is joining the ever growing team of A&E at Northern Beaches Hospital. Good luck, swimming and working! A good day for your first swim.

Lucy and I were late starters. I got a bit distracted taking photos but it was a lovely swim. Bit murky near the point but just sand and seaweed, otherwise viz wasn't bad and with the temperature almost hitting 19c (18.9) it was almost balmy. No bities though Hels got jimbled somewhere out there.

By the time we were heading back the bay was empty. We were enjoying that moment till we got thinking what does that mean, have we missed something!? However, we then saw a few others in the distance, relaxed again and continued on our merry way.

Post swim hot drink of choice and sunshine on the wall , taking in the best part of the day before it gets too hot. Following Michele and Martin's camino trip, looks exhausting so I think I'll stick to swimming!

Friday 20 October 2023 Fun and Foam and FFF return

Something for the surfers at last. FFFs returned today and will repeat every Friday for a while. A delightful fixture on the beach. 

 

17/10/2023 - Cold but Beautiful they said...

The water temp was down to 16.5 today and air temp only 12 degrees. I have to admit I didn't go in today, even though...'you never regret a swim', 'you're not properly awake until you get in the ocean', all these mantras came to mind but I just had a run and coffee instead...people that swam looked very happy, alive and refreshed!

6.28am swimmers go out under a moody sky...

They reported a calm bay, no stingers and not a lot of visibility.

My eyes will be half closed today ;-) unless I go in later...

Reports of big surf, coupled with the Sargasso sea at the shoreline yesterday, and we call half way. I see Franji heading for the Drinks Express, he even walks fast. Tony & I do a full circle, surprisingly clear. No pod of dolphins like our excellent adventure yesterday. We get back early & park at the shed in the sun & watch one of the biggest 630 groups I've even seen tear past. Fridays at Manly is where all the cool people hang out. BTW the big surf didn't come...

Caroline's Pitch Report. Friday 13th Black Friday. Back from my White Lotus Sicilian adventure. Guy gives us a fright with a healthy decrease in temp. 16.6. Our corner is buzzing. Drinks Express bigger than 7am today. Sarah from Sales talks of swimming with 20 dolphins yesterday. Amazing. Ian speaks of modern medical miracles, and wants to grow an extra appendage? Guv listens, a twinkle in his eye. Myths, urban legends, and tidbit tales from the 630 gang.

I’ve read tales of bravery and wild seas, seen temperatures of 17 plus from all the blogger news. Pleased to miss the waves talking personally. 

Meanwhile we are in Lincoln, UK at work with Nat drafted in to help test products (and website)

Tuesday 10th October - Swimming in a pot of rice

I have to admit the early morning shot was Lainey's,  I was probably still in bed when she took that one.

But as the pic shows, it was a pretty nice morning,  bit of cloud so felt colder than it was, though water quite pleasant at 17.9c.

Suzanne, Michael and Melissa gearing up to go while Sarah sold us with her report of "stunning and no stingers ", though she did leave out the part of feeling like you were running your hands through a watery bowl of rice,  which I gather was the salp. It started about half way across the bay and worse still was the occasional "grain " in my mouth, yuk! Rice/salp aside, it was a lovely swim, slow going out round the point due to the rip but that helped for a quick ride in.
