Kara donned a sparkly, mermaid-inspired costume for her birthday swim today! Doesn't she look great? It was so lovely hearing The Drinks Express singing Happy Birthday to her at 6.45am at Shelly this morning as I was on my morning run. What a beautiful morning it was today with air and water temp on 17.5 and rising... and calm seas...
5.55am
Celebration time too because the lovely Kath Jackson has just got engaged to her boyfriend with the nickname 'Crackers'! So glad things worked out for you Kath and you took that risk with leaving South Africa and calling Manly home :-) Here she is with Lisa, Annora and Di.
Another group shot of gorgeous women of the B&B, Lisa, Kate, Clare and Di. Oops just noticed Jonny at the back!
Our bay was calm and serene today for a change. Visibility was good around the poit and at Shelly but not so good in the middle.
Luckily we can still see a Blue Groper or 2 and close in to Shelly they are very friendly and stay around your legs hoping you might knock a sea urchin off a rock for them (not that we do that sort of thing!)
Billie the Green Turtle has been spotted over the last 2 weeks. I did take this last week though admittedly. Did anyone spot a turtle today?
This beautiful coloured fish is a Rainbow Cale, hard to photograph but to be seen close to Shelly.
The Drinks Express this morning as they sang to Kara!
Had to include another of the lovely Kara!
I bumped in to Caroline on a bus the other day. She just happens to be a researcher at The Garvan Institute as well as an amazing Swimmer and photographer. We do have some inspiring people amongst us. Sue, Jane and Izzy are also very inspiring in different ways!
Just realised I haven't got many guys in my blog today. Here are Dean and Mike in between gorgeous Nikki. Looking very happy!
Blue Groper and his Maori Wrasse friend. Apparently the Maori Wrasse also undergoes a sex change from female to male as well as the Groper!
This Maori Wrasse was hanging around the Stingaree to get some food scraps!
This Fiddler Ray lives at The Point
A Magnificent Volute
Groper and Wrasse again
Who doesn't love turtles?

6am and the beach is already busy. Everyone ready to seize the day.
Our favourite little corner is buzzing.
Friday is the new Saturday. A gateway to the weekend.
Bags already pilled up and the Drinks Express haven't even left yet.
Our Management Leader is back from Fiji! Ian had a wonderful time but is keen to get back in CTB, today being his first swim
Another Ian spotted! On his way in for 630am. Chris just finished a 6am swim, about to join the FFF doing their Friday thing.
If you have never done it, try it out! The FFF is quite a bit of fun! Definitely built my confidence and ability in the waves.
They start on the line, 630am every Friday.
Pitch Report
Water temp is creeping up after that diaster drop to 14C last week. A warm 18.5C!
Bit rolly out there. Shelly is nice and flat but you have to swim through a weird strange scuzz in the middle of the bay.
Minimal visibilty is not what we like to hear though its no worse than yesterday. Some patches are better than others. Lots of little fish hovering on the surface and around the rocks.
Rip is still going strong, lifeguards have moved the flags slightly further north.
As always, everyone still enjoyed their swim, plenty of smiles around.
Sue and Alison waiting for the 7am call to jump in
Few of the Drinks Express. Always smiling. Always fun to swim with.
Mandy and Doug bouncing out of the water post swim.
Thanks for reading swimmers!

This is a late but dedicated short blog as we make our way home from the UK.
I managed a few river swims, temperature circa 11/12 C. What a fun bunch these wild swimmers are. First swim was a stretch of the Thames at Runnymede. This was after when the hysteria had set in. The next swim was with a new group called the River Wey Merpeople who swim in the Wey at 6.30 am daily. Well I gave it a go …was told to bring a torch and wellies, the field was dark and muddy. The current was strong meaning the swoosh down was quicker than usual. In that temperature it was a small mercy.
As we got in one lady announced she wasn’t swimming with her kit on. Ah. And oh well, when in Rome. A first for everything. Huge amount of fun except for the poor early morning cyclist…
See you all soon for a salt water swim.
Hambe Kahle everyone.

The sunshine was out this morning & the water is finally warming up at a lovely 18.3. A massive improvement on the frozen 14.9 we had last week. Vis is still not amazing, but it’s also improving. Nothing overly exciting spotted today, except for an appearance from A Team legends Chris & Tim.
I didn’t entertain the race back from Shelly this morning as I was far too tired, but it was exciting to watch the battle. Tim was initially leading the pack, until he took a sneaky cheap shot and pushed Jesse under. Subsequently, Tim then swam face first straight into the big rock! Jesse was also slowed down by this manoeuvre, giving Chris a chance to get a significant lead and take the win! Congrats Chris. Jesse came in second, with Panton in third. Tim is still out there now I’m told trying to figure out how to swim around the rocks… hahahah.

As seems a regular occurrence with my blog, I was almost done and it disappeared ! There still seems to be problems with loading photos so not sure if they will appear or not.
Viz wasn't too bad today and neither was the rip but many of us swallowed a lot of water.
View this photo Oh, and a few birthdays too including our temperature artiste in residence Guy Dunstan, Marie Antoinette, Daniel Boon, KD Lang, David Schwimmer, Ken Rosewall and yours truly :) ... Seems to be some Confuddlement in the universe at the moment - is it Mars retrograde? ... an unhappy mother nature sending La Nina to reinforce her lessons? ... or the ancient gods and goddesses of the sea making their presence known? Today, Poseidon, king of the seas and Lord of the sea gods, was happy.
I purchased "Mythos" by Stephen Fry about 10 years ago, to read on a sailing holiday in the Ionian Sea. I didnt turn a page as I was fully immersed in sailing, swimming, sightseeing, food, ice cream, ouzo and wine. On a recent clean out to find books for the charity shop, I found it and thought I would read it. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I didnt study history at school - as a girly swot my preferred subjects were physics, chemistry and maths. Reading it also took me back to my childhood - our parents read to us until we could read ourselves and our favourites were fables, myths, legends and fairy tales - clearly i have been living in fantasy land most of my life! With all the confuddled conditions of late, I thought recognition of the ancient greek sea gods and goddesses was in order so that they will deliver us calm seas on a more regular basis.
With apologies to any greek historians in our community - following is a summary of some of those gods and goddesses so you can choose to recognise those you are drawn to, in your daily rituals. However, please note that gods and goddesses need appeasing. Ancient sacrifices to appease the gods/goddesses included but not limited to first fruits of the harvest, a basket of beans or grain, a cake, meat, a drink offering consisting of wine, milk, and honey. I presume that drinks consisting of wine only will be accepted as appeasement especially as it is a well known myth that vitamin Sea is a fabulous tonic to counter such appeasement.
Aegaeus- A god of violent sea-storms. Thank goodness he has given us a break from the tempestuous tumultuous seas of late. However, we know that he will return the favour!
Aeolus - The king of the winds. today he sent a blustery chilly westerly to flatten the seas and force a de-mothballing of neoprene today (for some - others maintain the "spring without wetsuit" challenge!)
Amphitrite - The goddess queen of the sea, wife of Lord Poseidon, and gave us the sea's rich bounty--fish and shellfish--as well as dolphins (led by the god Delphin), seals and whales (led by the Goddess Ceto).
Aphrodite - The goddess of love and beauty - born of the foam of the sea (I will leave you to look up exactly how - this is a family blog and the story may make a few males cringe!). I dont think Aphrodite wore neoprene....
Galene - One of the fifty Nereides, she was the goddess of calm seas and gave us calmness today.
Lamia - A monstrous shark-shaped sea Daemon. She was a devourer of men especially men who wear neoprene!
Sirens - Three dangerous sea Daemones who lured sailors to their deaths with their irresistable siren-song..... i dont think we would have any such sirens in our community :)
Thalassa - The Protogenos or primeval goddess of the sea, and we are all thalassaphiles - we love the sea!
Thoosa - A sea nymph, presided over "swift" currents and sea rips; Her parents and siblings represented other dangers of the sea. we can therefore thank toosa for being able to swim today back to the beach over the beautiful mesmerising sea grass, swaying in the gentle swell...
triton - The herald of the god Poseidon and the original mer-man (or, in our speak, manmaid). A blow of his conch-shell horn calmed the waves and at a wave of his magical trident - could arose the oceans..... perhaps he needs to deal with neoprene wearing manmaids :)
And finally - the canine gods of Chance and Hope (Sir Basil's new name) - hope was forever entombed in pandoras chest, and therefore Chance and Basil live in hope for the chance to snaffle some cake, crumbs, coffee - whatever falls their way :)
have a wonderful wednesday - stay safe, stay sane, look out for each other, stay kind and see you in the water!
