LAST BnB DINNER FOR 2022 – TUESDAY November 8

At our next monthly dinner, to be held on Tuesday November 8^th, Bluewater Café at 6.30 pm our guest will be Anita Jacoby AM.

Tuesday 25th Oct - Wild seas

After reading Tilly's blog yesterday I was hoping for calmer seas today, alas it was even worse!

Temperature is down a smidge at 17.4 and viz seemed to be irrelevant as it was so rough there was nothing to report.

Henrietta,  Sally and Marco ready to welcome any newbies,  and warn them re conditions,  but surprisingly there weren't any!

From the 6.30ers only Murray had a positive word to say, he's never said a negative word though. The rest said bad, big and messy the whole way.

Annie said even dipping was difficult.

Half way definitely not an option,  some of the bigger waves hitting the roof of the bower café. 

A quick dip at Shelley was all I managed and even that was rough, the picture is deceptive. 

High tide was 9am so got even bigger but hopefully tomorrow will be more swimable. Fi and Kelly keeping dry on the wall.

Tilly apologised for no photos so I tried to make up for it !🤭

Monday 24 October - Happy Birthday MDP!

Hey guys

 

What a horrible day! Grey, cold, raining and windy. The water was apparently 17.6 but felt freezing. Some big messy sets coming though & not great water quality. I hate to say it, but it did feel sharky.

 

Not many people knocking around this morning either, I’m assuming it’s because they wanted to stay nice and warm in bed! Good choice if that was you ☺️

 

I was lucky enough to catch a few waves on the way back in which was lots of fun. The lifeguards looked extremely worried this morning though & apparently they did jump in around 6.30am to check on some struggling folks out there. 

 

There seems to be something awry with uploading photos today, so apologies for this! I’ll ensure I have lots of pics in a few weeks time.

 

Finally, it’s my legendary mates’s birthday today! I’d ordinarily add a super embarrassing pic in here of him with his idol, but because it’s not working, I’ll just say Happy Birthday MDP! See you later for a beer 😘

Bull Shark Encounter

10pm Friday night Madam Guilottine suggests a harbour run for 630am. Magic Seaweed predicts a nasty NE onshore slop. Sunrise reveals a pretty messy ocean side swim

Pitch Report

Blue bottles around big fat juicy ones. Alright. We follow Kylie with a double in mind, harbourside. At the first point beyond the skiff club I see a bull shark. Wait..... A bull shark tail. It flicks right and disappears. We pull up. Caroline says did you see that. What? That big fricking bull shark. Maybe. I play it down. Are you sure? Yeah it was huge bigger than me. Well ok I did see it. What shall we do. I look around to see if any fishermen are burling up to attract fish. None. Yep lets get the flock out of here. We see Jenny Kent and her cougar gang half way. They motor back. I reckon I crack my fastest 600m of all time. See the boys waiting on shore wanting to do a run to the bog roll… Umm…Kylie and her gang arrives back from little manly, quick roll call…all good. I’m swimming ocean side tomorrow...

Friday 21 October 2022 - Not for the faint hearted

So my photos today are on land or from a distance - like a surveillance oeprative - because there was a powerful surf, big rip in the corner, occasional big sets, several board riders in the area where I would usually swim, and blue bottles. 

But the temperature was 18.9

Ger Devin from Wicklow recently copied Brendan Maher and swam the Catalina Channel and went through a really warm patch which was whale pee. I dont know where our Guy took the temperature today but I think I will never know why it is suddenly 18.9

 

Terrific Thursday

The water was over 18, calm and pretty clear. We didn't see the turtle today, but had a nice sighting yesterday, off the Bower.

A lot of sea life to see, found an Eagle Ray on the way to Shelly.

Cuttlefish are still around.

Saw this grey nurse just off the Bower, near the shed.

A huge Blue Groper near the point

Frolicked with this Fiddler Ray on the beach side of the point with this 7am swimmer....

Wish I could've done a double but had to get to work. Hope you had a great swim too!

Budgie Smuggler Swimmer of the Month

The Budgie Smuggler Swimmer of the Month for September is Allan Bicknell. Allan will receive a voucher for a new pair of Budgy Smugglers from the Budgy Smuggler shop. To be in the running for Swimmer of the Month, all you have to do is log your swims. The winner is selected randomly from all those who have swum at least once during the month. 19/10/2022 - Temp Hits 18!

Another bumpy swim with a trench and rip going in but temp had gone up to 18 and viz was quite good in parts. This healthy looking Cuttlefish was still hanging around near Shelly. Here he is with Champ!

The sky at 6.30am. The rain held off and as is usual everybody was so glad they swam.

Monday 17 October - my first swim in a whole week

Hey guys, happy Monday! 

This was my first swim in a whole week! I’ve just been in the US for a work conference, which was lots of fun. The water felt quite cold, even though the temp is going up (17.8). The sky was grey, and it was raining a little. So not the best way to start the week but it felt amazing to get back in the water and throw the arms over! 

I was a little late getting in but still overtook pretty much everyone swimming over haha 😆 And I took off from Shelly a little early as I was freezing. So Dave took the A Team win this morning!

Friday 14th - You don't talk about Fight Club

Drinksy lays down the rules for today. 4 rules. Don't go if you don't want to. I can't remember the rest. All I can think about is Fight Club and how I like rule number 3.

The waves are breaking out beyond the point. Sarah from Sales thinks about going for a walk.

Will, Chris and I decide to launch into the new FFF season, and not to battle the point today. Caroline goes for a run and a teabag. Where's Trooper to rally the troops? We do fine without him, I think he's up in Queensland somewhere rowing a boat.

The truck full of logs pulled from the surf exits the beach. A couple of blue bottles left behind. For once Cabbage Tree Bay doesn't look that inviting, and given the waves it's going to hard to get out there anyway.

Drinks Express envy. Caroline wants to be as fast as Kylie (Madame Guillotine), Millie (Smurf) or Sneaky Scott (Happy Birthday for this week!)
