Tuesday September 13th - No coffee, no crowds

The forecast wasn't great but as is so often the case,  it was a pleasant surprise that there was no rain and even some sun, making a spectacular backdrop. Photo credit to Alison.

Reports from the early swimmers were good. Colin and Greg said flat and fast. 

Kate, Barb and Jacqui said gorgeous, clear and cold,  temperature was 16.3 which was slightly warmer than yesterday. 

 

Tony welcomed my visiting American friend, Leslie but didn't convince her to swim. 

Jo was still shivering post swim,  even after her bottled hot water shower. 

Maddie,  Alex, Nat, Alison and Jane were wondering where the crowds had gone. Post swim the place was deserted. 

The men of the bench informed us that they coffee shop was shut so everyone dispersed to find coffee elsewhere!

At our next monthly dinner, to be held on Tuesday September 13th at Bluewater Café at 6.30 pm. Our September speaker, or rather speakers, will be a group of BnB swimmers who took on the challenge of walking the entire 800 kilometre pilgrim trail, Camino de Santiago, the way of St James.

Battling exhaustion, despair, resignation and finally exhilaration they travelled from Saint Jean Pied de Port, France, and headed westwards across mountainous Spain to Santiago de Compostela.

Be enthralled as they recount their tales of exhaustion, rain and blisters as they discover more about their fellow pilgrims and delve into their own individual journey of physical and spiritual self-discovery.

 

The cost of the dinner is great value at only $35 a head, which includes shared entrees, and a selection of mains to choose from (including a vegetarian option). You’ve done the hard yards and earned your Winter Badge(s), so why not collect them personally with all the pomp and ceremony the B&B can muster. Our Winter Badge Ceremony will be held at the Royal Far West’s Centre for Country Kids at 14-18 Wentworth St (opposite Rialto Square) on Sunday 9^th October, at 8 am, straight after the regular swim! Everyone is welcome, family, friends and swimmers alike. Bring along $10 for each badge you have earned (credit cards accepted at this event). For the first time at this event, $2 will be donated to the Royal Far West for each badge purchased on the day. So, if you can’t make it, get your friends to collect your badge for you. Monday 12 Sept - the sun is out

Happy Monday swimmers!

My name is Tilly & I’m new to the blog! I swim everyday at 7.03am with the A Team. I beat them all every morning and I love it (they don’t love it, which makes it even more fun!). It’s the best way to start the day. I’ve made some amazing friends through this swim, and hopefully you enjoy seeing some pics of my friends & other swimmers every few weeks.

The water was a fresh 15.8 this morning, but it was so beautiful in with lovely clear water. Tammy & I saw a baby port Jackson swimming over and Jesse & I swam over a massive port Jackson on the way back from Shelly, but he was trying too hard to keep up with me to notice it!!

Friday 9 September 2022 Comes a Timev - Vale QEII

We woke to the news that Queen Elizabeth II has died. Guy Dunstan recorded the temperature at 17.0 degrees and a thanks for her service. On a personal note I can note that I was named after her - as were lots of people of my generation - so a sombre reminder for me about the march of time. 

This is a remote blog so I cannot show the sea at Manly - do your best to swim wherever you are - and have a good day.

7/09/2022 - Beautiful

Well done Milo on swimming with The Drinks Express at only 10 years old! Watch out for Milo he's training for Ironman events already and is very strong and very determined! When I asked everyone about their swim today, most people just said 'beautiful'! Viz was patchy and not great, didn't hear amazing sealife reports but the sun was blazing and the water was fresh and clean with a few exciting waves! Water temp was 16.9 but felt a little warmer :-)

I do believe it's our Ian's birthday today. He does so much to keep the B&B such an amazing community of swimmers. This is him a few years ago. He's 'swanning around' in the Kruger Nat Park at the moment and has abandoned Gropers for Elephants :-) Happy Birthday Ian!

Tuesday 7th’s Daily wave

G’day everyone

I’ve swapped with Lainey so doing the Tuesday blog. We looking for a Monday blogger to replace dear Scott who is heading back to Old Blighty.

The water was crisp at 16.9 C, some nice waves for the surf lovers and beautiful bay swimming. We saw a few PJ sharks and a giant cuttle  fish today always such such a joy. 

The scene the waves the people the beach … with our lovely Doc Michelle and Martin (not Doc Martin) some lovely WOWs and Juliet and her hubby making guest appearances 

It took 3 attempts to line up this unruly mob of Greg Ian Shane and Ted and the hounds and of course there’s always one - Peter

This was a beautiful contemplative shot which says it all about the swim. 

Post Bluewater brekkie with Lisa and Ro. These beanies were knitted by talented WOW Alison … always worth buying her a coffee or two :)

Down in the Tube Station at Midnight

Faahany backs up after an early hour adventure. Smelt of pubs and wormwood scrubs. The smell of brown leather. A takeaway curry. Too tricky to put on a wetsuit, I watch him for 10 minutes trying to put on his cap. Halfway around the world, daughter Brooke channels him in a London pub. Talk of something about igniting or exploding.

Andre is here early, flexing his muscles, but doesn't go the 609 route. Telling tales of the large Wobby in shallow water at the point. Andre is off to Europe for 2 months. Who’s going to bake the cakes?

Guy phones the Huey the Weather God, after another magnificent temperature recording. Huey reckons the Magic Seaweed guys are probably smoking some seaweed.

Rusty and Caroline’s Pitch Report

Meant to be 3-5 foot but Magic Seaweed has it wrong. Pulsing bigger but otherwise flat. Had a chat to 2 guys at the point about wetsuits and hot water bottles. Super clear today. Bit of a grey outlook. Lots of fishies. Faahany has seen 2 big duskies. Mid ocean we bump into the yellow capped Chippo. He stops 100m short of Shelley, don’t tell the Auditor General Stealthy The Hun. I detour over to the boulders to check out the foam out at Deadmans but no warm wash. Not much swell to catch. Maybe tomorrow. Caroline reports bubbles at Shelley. And lots of muscles.

The 609 gang (The Rebel Alliance) is growing. Freedom fighters. Dissidents. Arcing up against the right wing meetings of the Drinks Express.

You might see 2 blokes (Mark and Mat) running up and down Manly Beach for 24 hours for Bear Cottage. They start at 11am Friday. Mat is husband of BNB regular Meredith, often seen keeping Zig Zag on track. If you want to cheer them on check out their FB link below:
