Summary: What a day to be alive! It’s a long (normal 5 days) week for many, but statistically* a person is set to have a better week when it starts with a B&B swim;
Temp: Water is a tropical 21.1 degrees (thanks Guy for the unwavering commitment to sharing the temp), with a sneaky refreshing patch of water (dropped a few degrees) to delight a few swimmers near Shelly;
Point Express: The South Steyne current was mild today, gentle rip heading out to the point and very manageable swim back to the beach on the return (for the head2head warriors);
Visibility: Today was a day to take the scenic path along the rock wall. Viability was great and the marine life was out in all its glory. There were reported sightings of many fish, rays, wobbys, grey nurses and maybe a port jackson.
Vibe: There was a real sense of calm, with flat waters and a relaxing sunrise under the clouds. A few early mentions of wetsuits - quick recalibrated when Guy’s reassuring water temp was sighted and everyone made a civilised water entry (Kel was the only outlier, entering the water with pure joy).
The start: As the season changes, keeping a close eye on Guy's temp reading so I know when I can justify the extra floatation support...
Point meeting: Congregation at the point before the swim to Shelly commences; pleasantly surprising how many friendships start here
Mid-meeting: Many smiles on the point as everyone acclimatizes and prepares for the swim
Welcome: New member to the B&B fam, enjoying the 2nd swim and the much calmer waters
More introductions: Friends come in all shapes and sizes
The journey: As important as the destination, and always a pleasure with the company we keep
Social life: Plenty of action above and below the water
B&B school: The 6:30am crew on their way as a group to Shelly, a picture of envy around the world
Along the way: Wobby life as the B&B fam make their daily voyage across to Shelly. Question, where to Wobbegong's sleep? ...On the seabed!
Meanwhile: Booty camp are getting a beach workout in; often keen for a land & sea double header
The end: Love that feeling as the endorphins kicking in; smile on the dial at the end of the swim
Post: Always great hanging with a true A-Team of humans.. See you next time
Scott
Announcement:
B&B monthly dinner - it will be a good one - a few episodes of Yes Prime Minister or Utopia will prepare you well!
Tuesday 10th May 2022
The speaker at our next monthly dinner, to be held on Tuesday May 10th at Bluewater Café at 6.30 pm, will be one of our swimmers, Ranya Alkadamani. Ranya, whose career as a political media adviser involved traveling the world with a former foreign minister, will take us behind the scenes of the dark art of political electioneering. These advisors, professional guns for hire who sell their skills to the highest bidder, are a strong determinant on who we vote for. Sometimes more Yes Prime Minister than West Wing, this insight into the secrets of political manoeuvring will be totally enlightening and entertaining. So, forget about the Federal election, open your mind and park your politics at the door.
The cost of the dinner is great value at only $30 a head, which includes shared entrees, and a selection of mains to choose from (including a vegetarian option). Glasses of beer or wine and desserts are also available at the special price of only $5 each (please note, NO BYO). Bookings are essential, so to avoid disappointment and secure your spot please book HERE.
