Wednesday 5th January - mother nature on display again, and cyclone Seth continues to send well Southwards which split todays swimmers across multiple locations. A few swam harbourside. A brave few ventured in at the usual place. Some started at Shelly but reported strong currents and some dreaded bluebottles around the Shed area. At Half Way the waves were breaking, providing spectacular photo opportunities and also a complete drenching - so you really didnt need to swim at all to infuse vitamin sea! and some, like me, swam at Manly dam with the Mer-friends. Calm, serene, moody, with a bit of mist adding to the mystery, eels freak me out since i saw one eat a duckling at the botanic gardens when i was little, thankfully not an eel in sight (only one beautiful black swan, gracefully gliding in the distance) - and nothing really to see under the water... its a bit murky and it feels very weird swimming in fresh water - it feels harder!
the contrast couldnt have been greater - this is south steyne...
manly dam..
The stats:
Water Temp: 23.7 degrees
tide - incoming, high around 11 (and its a huge tide!)
weather - rainy, moody - possibly ordered by the England cricket team? the 4th test starts today at the SCG, the "pink" test raising money for the McGrath Foundation.
air temp - muggy, humid
vibe - in awe of nature, happy to swim anywhere really
thanks to our awesome artists the temperature wasnt washed off!
very few swimmers around - some of the harbour side swimmers headed back to manly to watch the "cyclone seth" show
beach closed - but surfers and clubbies had fun in the surf
half way was spectacular but an entry/exit only for the brave and strong - pick your timing,
even the pool was pretty much underwater - and not even at high tide!
the photos dont really do the waves justice... the surfers and clubbies were having a ball.
manly dam, however was calm (until we started swimming and interrupted the serenity!)
underwater at manly dam.... riveting...
not strictly Bold & Beautiful related but if you get a chance, tonight is the last night of "elevate sydney" and an awesome drone show - this is one of the creatures featured (deliberately blurred to capture movement). Tickets available via ticketmaster and they are free! or, you can see the drone show at 10pm from the circular quay foreshore:
strangely there werent many canines around this morning - was it the canines or their humans that didnt want to go out in the rain?
Stay safe, stay sane, be kind & look after each other as Omricon is not going away any time soon... there are members of the B&B community who are either isolating, have family hospitalised at the moment so thoughts are with them - we have an amazing supportive community and with that, we will get through to the other side.
Hopefully you will all make sensible choices however you choose to infuse vitamin sea today and over the next few days until Cyclone seth decides to disappear.
stay safe & sane & have a great day!
