After having covid over Christmas I was dying to get back in Cabbage Tree Bay with my Groper friends (and B&B buddies) but as soon as I was able, our favourite corner was hit with Nor Easterlies, bluebottles and wild seas. Fortunately... there's the harbour and it's been beautiful swimming around there catching up with swimmers and being pleasantly surprised by marine life! Today was even wilder in our bay so only the really experienced gave it a shot!
This lot peruse the conditions at 6.20am
A lot of them did make it to Shelly but even Drinky said one of the toughest swims ever!
Half way was dangerous. Hopefully Paul Birch is ok as we heard he got cut up a bit at the steps. Thanks for the halfway pics Liz.
Beach closed sign goes up. Hopefully Dave P is ok he had a few stitches in the head apparently.
Jan and Dave went through the waves today. Bronwen and I did the seahorse swim!
Cute Porcupinefish too.
I saw a couple of fish I hadn't seen before yesterday swimming from Manly to Fairlight. The top one is a 'Clown Toby' and after the squid, a 'Magpie Perch'.
My favourite was this 'Mosaic leatherjacket'. So cute!
Had an interesting experience with a Moray Eel who'd swallowed a fish who'd swallowed a hook and line. Managed to pull the hook, line a fish head out and Moray swam away!
At the harbour some did laps across, some swam to the toilet roll and others went on snorkelling safaris the other side towards Fairlight. So much choice!
Brendan had to push himself harder than everyone else and swam to Queensie and back! He was contemplating going back in too!
the Maras with friends Fergus and Kerry dodged boats to do their 6 laps (or 12)
And it was lovely Daphne's birthday . Happy Birthday Daphne!
Hopefully conditions in CTB improve soon. Happy holidays guys!
Lainey
