In the past week I have noticed that there
has been an increasing amount of plastic and rubbish floating about the shallows ( and the deep…) I often challenge myself to see how far down I can dive to pick up a stray peg or like the other day…a toothbrush!
I know there are lots of us who regularly stash bits and pieces of flotsam and jetsam down our cossies and swimming trunks , and then only to discover it pop out later in the shower…when we least expect it! But if we ALL grab what we can whilst marvelling at pj’s and sea grass, then we can help keep our tiny corner of the globe garbage free and clean for all, especially our marine friends. And…just think how impressive you will look with extra junk in your trunks!!
And in other exciting news, keep cups are now back on the menu at the Manly Point Cafe.
The whole team gave me them the thumbs up.
Just make sure they are well washed and hand them over to get your fill of your morning bevy!
The conditions looked pretty good this morning.
A gentle wave and sunny skies and the chalk wall being kind to us 19.7. It told a little bit of a different story once I started wading in towards the point. A little bit of weed is still about and the water had crunchy bits floating around ! The vis wasn’t great either but I still enjoyed the morning swim of course.
So don’t forget to, as Fi and Amanda said..”take 3 for the sea” at least! Or 4 or 5 or as much as you can stuff down your swimsuit.
Thank you chalk wall!
The yogi’s working on a spiritual cleanse! And happy snaps of the early birds below!
Here’s what a few of us collected from the water and the ramp…( sad face) The turtles and fish are attracted to the colourful plastic stuff…! We can’t have our sea life buddies ingesting this crap!
The hard working team at the Manly Point Cafe giving the go ahead for clean keep cups!
Hooray. And if you order a take away coffee in a disposable cup you can request “no lid please”
( happy face) !
Have a wonderful day folks and don’t forget to keep it clean !
Fin Yoga xx
and now a word from our sponsors!!
Winter Badge Collection 2021
The Winter badges are finally on their way! Congratulations to all those who completed their Covid-19 winter swimming challenge. As more than 500 swimmers qualified, the badge distribution this year will initially be via snail mail to maintain a Covid-safe environment for our volunteers. Unfortunately, only virtual handshakes and hugs from Ian, John, Anne and Pauline and contact-less distribution.
There are two ways you can obtain your badge(s)
- Method 1. Inside a self-addressed, stamped envelope place cash for your badge/s - $10 per badge for the Winter Badge (if you completed 20 swims over winter) and an extra $10 for the WWW Badge if you did those swims without a wetsuit. Family members/friends sharing an envelope must clearly name each swimmer and badgeachieved. Please check postage rates and size of envelope required for multiple badges. Post this envelope in another envelope to Ian Forster, 6 Bligh St, Northbridge. 2063.
- Method 2. Wait until Covid restrictions on gathering are relaxed. We will then arrange a time for you to collect your badges from us in person. No promises when this will be but it may be when the vaccination rate reaches 80%.
Badges will be posted as soon as they arrive. If you have any other badges that you are missing and wish to purchase, please include cash for those as well.
