Wednesday 13th October - a "Whaley" wonderful wild wednesday!
There was a LOT of excitement at Manly this morning - as I walked to the beach I met Anita, and after a reunion hug, she could not contain her excitement, at the sighting of a whale a few hunderd metres from the shore. It would have been very easy to press the "snooze" button today, lulled by falling rain, however those brave enough to venture out (you get wet swimming anyway!) were treated to a magical display of agility by said whale, sightings of turtles in the bay and dolphins offshore from the point. If you look VERY closely (OK you may need a magnifying glass) in this photo - the swimmer is pointing to a whale ! I just missed capturing a picture of the magnificent creature breaching (not fast enough with coffee in hand!), but it was spectacular (the second photo is the splash from the breach). It was Corrines birthday and as she was being serenaded in the water at the Bower, the whale decided to put on a show for her! Wishing Corinne a Wonderfully Whaley happy birthday!
Water temp: 18.1 degrees (air temp hovering around 15!!)
Conditions: choppy, rainy & windy but clear - a perfect day for a swim - actually any day is a perfect day for a swim isnt it?
Vibe: "whaley" excited!
Babies: Toby
Canines: Freddie and Chance
Whales sighted - one!
Birthdays: Corinne (tobys aunt!)!
Dave, Lainey (matchmaker for dave and corinne!), Corinne (birthday girl) and Tatiana en route to their swim start point
Jackie en route to join the birthday swim (baby toby had no shortage of companions!)!
James en route to birthday swim!
Kara swam earlier and kept Chance company whilst his hooman (Sally) swam
Soooo good to see my mer-friends again! its been a LONG three months!
Freddie was looking for the whale....
Its so lovely to be able to celebrate birthdays and other occasions again in groups of friends..... happy birthday Corinne!
Today was yet another reminder that mother nature can present challenges, but also beauty.... if you look for it.
Its fabulous to be able to get back to Manly again and have the wonderful Bold & Beautiful community united again.
Have a "whaley" good wednesday everyone - stay safe, stay sane, stay kind and stay positive as we navigate the road to what will be our "new normal".
take care,
Jocelyn
Winter Badge Collection 2021
The Winter badges are finally on their way! Congratulations to all those who completed their Covid-19 winter swimming challenge. As more than 500 swimmers qualified, the badge distribution this year will initially be via snail mail to maintain a Covid-safe environment for our volunteers. Unfortunately, only virtual handshakes and hugs from Ian, John, Anne and Pauline and contact-less distribution.
There are two ways you can obtain your badge(s)
- Method 1. Inside a self-addressed, stamped envelope place cash for your badge/s - $10 per badge for the Winter Badge (if you completed 20 swims over winter) and an extra $10 for the WWW Badge if you did those swims without a wetsuit. Family members/friends sharing an envelope must clearly name each swimmer and badge achieved. Please check postage rates and size of envelope required for multiple badges. Post this envelope in another envelope to Ian Forster, 6 Bligh St, Northbridge. 2063.
- Method 2. Wait until Covid restrictions on gathering are relaxed. We will then arrange a time for you to collect your badges from us in person. No promises when this will be but it may be when the vaccination rate reaches 80%.
Badges will be posted as soon as they arrive. If you have any other badges that you are missing and wish to purchase, please include cash for those as well.
