Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, step dads, grandads, mums & others who play a dad role, and thinking of those for whom this is the first Father’s Day without their dads and those whose dads no longer with us…. Apparently historically, dads get a 10 second head start for the “normal” swim … hopefully you’re all having a lovely day with your families or friends that are family in person or virtually connected ..
Mother Nature decided to mess with the forecast & brought sunshine & light so I hope you managed to infuse vitamin sea (or equivalent) or vitamin D or vitamin G somewhere…
Water temp: manly: 17; Balmoral: 16.4 (its getting warmer!)
Conditions: manly: few bumps; Balmoral: calm and clear
Vibe at Balmoral this morming was very relaxed, lots of smiles under masks (smiling eyes) - happy to be outdoors on this beautiful day.
Ian and Pauline started today with a dose of vitamin Sea & hoping their kids will remember fathers day!!
Lockdown has been challenging for everyone… for those who can’t get to manly, some have found alternative places to swim (balmoral “Mexicans”, the “bobbin head” chapter), and even “forest bathing” (shinrin-yoku)…. If you’re not swimming at manly please keep posting your adventures as it’s great to get to know about more swimming oases (? is that a word?) around Sydney!
And - in joyful Breaking news, those in a 5km radius of the newly refurbished Dawn Fraser Baths in Balmain (inner west) as of Monday can book a swim and finally infuse vitamin sea (there are some resrictions so check their website! https://www.innerwest.nsw.gov.au/explore/aquatic-centres/dawn-fraser-baths )! Great work from Leichhardt council & their local members and others advocating for its opening. The balmoral chapter isn’t blessed with as much variety of sea creature sightings so we’ve created our own:
Dolphin from Natalie Schaffer
Legless Bird from JK
Hearts from Anne & JK
My late parents loved taking us to the beach, and dad loved to play practical jokes on us. One beach holiday, dad told me that sharks were attracted to red. Guess what colour my new swimmers were? So I “drew” A Shark (?) with the Saturday morning balmoral crew.
and hearts from the Thursday crew
A sail boat (yet to hoist sails!) from the early crew (Anne)
Sea snake from the Friday morning crew
Have a wonderful Sunday Fun-day everyone!
Jocelyn
