Everyone loves a leftie, don’t they? Especially on the Northern Beaches.
In case it passed you bye in this pandemic haze, Friday was was International Left Handers Day. A celebration of all that’s left. I think the celebrations should continue for a week – International Left Handers week would be sensational.
So along with me who is a leftie among our Bold and Beautiful swimmers? Do you breathe left, right or maybe both sides. Perhaps you’ve never thought too much about it.
A tip from the commentators in the 10km Marathon swim at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics was it’s best for your neck to breathe on both sides. You do of course also have to intersperse this with the occasional sighting ahead to avoid head on collisions in the bay.
Please contribute your leftie comments or reflections below. If you breathe left do you have a different view of the world?
ABOVE: Dog of a day at Manly – wonderful technique from both swimmers.
ABOVE: Greg gives a way to all lefites. He is ambidextrous and can yield a cricket bat both left and right handed. He puts it down to the tough disciplinarians at school forcing him to use his right hand but his rebellious streak winning out.
ABOVE: Sooze gives a left handed wave to left handers day.
ABOVE: Sunday was fabulous for Port Jackson sighting at the Bower – and as Port is left in sailing parlance then that must make the PJs the lefties of our shark mates. I was in PJ paradise this morning at the Bower.
ABOVE: Todd is a righthander but gives a left handed wave to his mum and other lefties.
All the stats:
Water temp: 16.5 (You will have to confirm with this LGA resident above)
Air temp at 7.10am: 13 degrees
Jimble stats: No reports in a sample of five
Swimmers: various duos throughout the day
ABOVE: The moss is always greener on this side.
ABOVE: (Left to right or maybe right to left) Righthanders Margaret and Elizabeth give the left handed wave at Shelly Beach.
ABOVE: The fiddler ray is also known as a banjo ray and is a genus of the guitarfish and is definitely the most musical of our aquatic friends out there today.
It ain’t over till its over ... but one day it will be.
Look after each other, enjoy our beautiful ocean and give a word of encouragement to those who need it in these times.

Manly Point Cafe exposure site
As you are most likely aware the Manly Point Cafe has been listed as an exposure site (this is the cafe near the Manly Surf Lifesaving Club).
Anybody who was around the venue at 8.07am on Saturday 7th August should self-isloate and get a COVID test as per the government guidelines https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/rules/self-isolation#when-you-must-self-isolate. Unfortunately this does not mean sneaking in a swim or takeaway coffee or exercise before your test.
We know our swimmers are all responsible and will do the right thing so thank you for your cooperation.

In Greater Sydney and other lockdown areas, the 10km rule will be cut to 5km from 12.01am Monday, August 16, with shopping, exercise and outdoor recreation to be done in a person’s local government area (LGA) or, if outside their LGA, within 5 kilometres of home.
Please do your research and to find out what applies to you.
