I was greeted with a lot of negativity this morning down at the swim, a first for me in 8 years of blogging! Early swimmers reported dirty water, weed and stingy things. However Martina from Port Melbourne thought it was great! It was her first swim with us and usually swims with tankers, in fishless water with temp as low as 9 degrees!
Ian and Sophie are always optimistic! Sophie suggested a joy jump and we couldn’t refuse!
Dorsey was in good spirits because The Festival of Seaweed starts this week at Manly Museum and Art Gallery. Dorset and his wife Jenny have done an amazing amount of work working to bring back snd encourage even more biodiversity in Cabbage Tree Bay. He thanks us swimmers for helping plant Crayweed and support their endeavors. Please jump on the Manly Museum website and go along to the exhibition and attend some of the amazing workshops!
I waded out from the Surf Club today warily wondering how it could really be as bad as some described. I was pleasantly surprised to see a Fiddler Ray scavenging in the weed and greeny water!
Tony, Kristy and Jacky were at The Point and gave the swim the thumbs up!
As Marine Biologist Penny Berents pointed out we shouldn’t complain about green, unclear, slightly smelly water as it is full of nutrients for our fish out there. There might be a few jellyfish about but they make excellent food for our favourite creatures like Turtles! (Apologies to anyone who suffers badly from stings and hopefully Jess is ok now after swimming head on in to a Barrel Jellyfish.)
I couldn’t post in the usual way this morning so am doing it on my phone on the way to swim with seals in Narooma!
Thank you SO much to those of you who baked, bought or donated at the Can Too cake stall on Saturday. Kelly- Ann and I were bowled over by your generosity and we raised $1803 for this fantastic cause funding cancer researchers early in their careers!
Also remember our very own Izzy is one of the speakers at Story Room this evening at The Steyne. Book before 5pm!
Have a great day folks!
