The pandemic is not over, so if we could all take care with our safety and that of our friends we will get through this
It seemed the weather didn't know what it was doing today - warm, cold, cloudy with the sun trying to break out.
This did not deter the early wows
As usual the bay was full of swimmers
More wows at Shelly having briefly vacated their fortress (damn you, blurry lens)
Visibility was not great so I don't have many fish photos for you
red morwong and maori wrasse
old wives
the elusive spangled emperor
and here's one I prepared earlier
Back on home turf after a brief and fortunately non violent struggle
Lainey blogs a lot but doesn't get in the blog very often so here she is. Wish her luck for this afternoon.
Some things just should not end up in the ocean, so I extracted a miniscule amount of them
In keeping with the theme of everything being a little different this year....
B&B's 2020 Christmas Party will also be a little different (due to coronavirus restrictions).
B&B will be hosting a Christmas Dinner in The Glasshouse at the Steyne Hotel on Tuesday 8th December at 6.30 pm. A two-course dinner will be provided at a cost of $55/head, and drinks will be at bar prices. This will be a seated function in a Covid-safe environment. Numbers are limited, so please book early HERE . All swimmers and partners/friends are welcome (no under 18s unfortunately). If you wish to be seated with friends, please make a group booking (max. 10 people). Don’t forget to wear your best festive attire – there will be prizes for the best dressed. Let’s make this a Christmas to remember.
IE: Book any number on your table, but max is 10
New Swimmers sign-up, Caps and Badges
On Saturday 28th November your B&B volunteer helpers will be at the benches (100 m north of the surf club, weather permitting) from 8 am until 9 am with a sign-up sheet for anyone who wants to sign up and start logging their swims. Remember, to be eligible for the Summer Badges, you will need to log your swims. Any new swimmers who have started swimming over the winter period are invited to sign up and get their free B&B latex cap.
In addition, if you haven’t got your winter badges yet, we will have a supply of this year’s winter badges for sale (Covid Challenge and Ice Cold Corona) at $10 each. We will also have the following items:
- summer badges (triple, 6 km, 10 km), distance badges (500 km, 1000 km, 2000 km) and last year's badges - $10 each (cash only please bring the correct money)
- silicone swimming caps ready for winter - $15 each (cash only please bring the correct money)
- latex caps (free) if you have broken/lost yours or have friends/family who have just started swimming
Happy swimming
A Message from Royal Far West
2020 has been a tough year for so many of us, not least Australia’s country children, whose families and communities have borne the brunt of persistent drought, traumatic bushfires and now COVID-19.
I’m reaching out today to ask you if you will consider supporting country kids this Christmas when you celebrate with your team, clients, customers or suppliers?
It’s easy to get involved and there are many unique ways you can support. All funds raised will go directly towards providing children in rural and remote Australia with the vital developmental and mental health services they need.
Here are some of the ways your business can support:
- Organise a Christmas competition or Christmas-themed morning tea and ask for donations to enter
- Charge a small cover fee to attend your Christmas party and donate the proceeds
- Pay it forward and donate in lieu of Secret Santa gifts
- Make a donation in lieu of hampers or gifts for your clients or customers (or ask your suppliers to donate instead of sending gifts this year)
- Install a Tap to Donate machine (available on request) in your workspace for your clients and customers
- Purchase packs of Christmas cards designed by country kids to send to your clients or customers
- Purchase a real Christmas tree for your office and peruse our on-site markets on selected weekends throughout December
We’ve got everything you need from donation boxes to decorations, and you can setup your own online events page for contactless donations.
Whatever you choose to do, we’d be so grateful for your support and I’ll be here every step of the way to ensure you’re supported in planning and implementing your activities.
To get started or to chat about ways you can show country kids you care this Christmas, please email me or call on 02 8622 6819.
Kind regards,
Desiree Creedon
What have I been listening to? Lots. Last night I was listening to Velvet Underground following random thoughts of Robert Mitchum, but earlier this week I was struck by the beauty of this piece
