Golden glows this morning...A chill in the air but calm, clear water which was around 17 degrees but warmer as you swam out...
Leanne and Megan went for an early swim. This is JK before he saw 'the MASSIVE wobbegong at the point'.
6.47am. Sue goes out for her double. Ali and Jo come in from their dark swim. No reports of and great marine sightings today...
This is legendary 'Capless Dave'. He set up a mobile cafe/bar at the weekend on his paddleboard. He handed out cocktails, hot choccies and scones with cream! Thanks so much Dave.
Proof that swimming keeps you young. It was Craig's birthday yesterday 76 years old. His younger mate Jim is back from Cooma and it's great to have him back :-)
7.07am and swimmers walked in to and swam through a stunning sunrise. Here is Bibi who recently posted some beautiful Cuttlefish photos on the swimmers Facebook page.
Lovely to see Santa back swimming on the left. Here she is with Sam and Claire.
I'm not sure who the guy on the left is but Shane and Donald swim with him ;-)
Wows bathed in light as they head off
Last one for today...Dr Michele and her friends head out.
Off to work now folks but Turtle news below!
There's nothing more breathtaking than swimming along and watching a Turtle come close to you and paddle to the water surface, stretching it's neck and head... out for a breath of air! We're very lucky because according to a group of keen citizen scientists tracking sightings, there have been more turtles this year than ever before in our beautiful Cabbage Tree Bay.
The citizen scientists are members of a Facebook group called VIZ – Sydney Diving Visibility Reports. Sydney has 35 sightings reported, the group has managed to identify 12 individuals; three hawksbill turtles and nine green turtles.
They report that the location with the most turtle sightings recorded is our very own Cabbage Tree Bay, Manly, with six individuals sighted here in recent months. Other popular turtle hangouts including Bare Island in La Perouse, and Kurnell. Most turtles sighted were healthy, with two requiring intervention.
Over my 9 years of swimming with the B&B I've only seen about 5 different Turtles here in CTB. The Hawksbill Turtle 4 years ago was amazing. He hung around for weeks under the same rock! A lot of us used to regularly see 'Shelly' the Turtle in 2015 before and after rehabilitation when a tracker was put on her back!
This is 'Shelly' the Green Turtle before she was taken to Manly Sea Life Sanctuary for rehabilitation.
FYI, the green turtle is a large, weighty sea turtle with a wide, smooth shell. It inhabits tropical and subtropical coastal waters around the world. It is named not for the colour of its shell, which is normally brown or olive depending on its habitat, but for the greenish colour of its skin. This is Shelly a few months later with the tracker.

This is Ella, the Turtle rescued in Manly a few months back.
Divers noticed the turtle was covered in barnacles, an indicator of low mobility, and reported the sighting to Australian Seabird Rescue who are currently caring for the creature. The cause of illness? The turtle had swallowed a rubber balloon with over 2.5m of string.
A couple of years ago I managed to pull this from around a Turtle's neck!
Then a rescue was led by Sharnie and this heavily barnacled Turtle was taken for rehabilitation.
This is the lovely Hawksbill.
Healthy Turtles in our bay. The Hawksbill and then A Green Turtle from earlier this year.

Hopefully Ella and Billie will be returned to Cabbage Tree Bay when they have both recovered!

A message from Ema Grose
Hey friends,
This year, I’ve decided to sign up again for Dry July. We know 2020 has been a year of challenges, which makes the challenge all the more difficult!
Going dry won’t just benefit my own health, but it’s all for a great cause. I’m raising funds for Dry July Foundation to help support people affected by cancer, who need our help now more than ever.
Any donation you can give would be greatly appreciated, even if it’s what you’d save on your daily coffee or commute! You can make a donation here: www.dryjuly.com/users/emma-grose.
Thanks in advance for your donation!
(A non-alcoholic) Cheers,
Emma
