Venus, from Italian artist, Botticelli's famous painting, 'The Birth of Venus', has decided not to emerge from the sea today. She popped her head up, took one look around and said, 'COVID what? Bugger that', I'm staying in the safety and calm of the ocean today. When this April Fool's Day joke is over, let me know and I'll come back out'.
I'm sure many B&Bers are feeling the same way as Venus today and would like to disappear into the calming waters of Cabbage Tree Bay and swim with all manner of beautiful sea life then come up again when this craziness is over.
If only COVID 19 is just a big prank (and not a very funny one at that) and we will all be back to normal soon.
It did make me reminisce, though, about the funny pranks we used to get up to at school on April Fool's Day. After a few minutes I was laughing out loud! SO good for the soul!! I challenge all the B&Bers to wrack your brains and think of the funny pranks you may have orchestrated or been the subject of and leave a comment so we can all have a good belly laugh.
In Year 10, 1983 (just the other day), we had two Religious Studies lessons on at the same time. Our 2 classes of about 30 students each decided to swap classes without letting on to the teachers. As they did the roll call we took it in turns to yell out 'here' and it ran like clockwork. The teachers were none the wiser! The lesson proceeded and all was great with the world and we chuckled hard under our breath. It all came unstuck when someone from admin popped in looking for a student who of course was not in the class despite having answered 'here' to her name! Sadly, the teachers didn't see the funny side despite it being April Fool's day and we call got detentions! A classic April Fools that backfired! Those were the days!! 🤣
While you are thinking of funny pranks.... here is a video for all the kids of the B&B who are stuck at home needing some creative ideas! Here you get to create a really cool fish for Cabbage Tree Bay! You need paper and coloured pencils or crayons or paint - whatever takes your fancy! I used to work with this fabulous teacher. I was fundraising for the school she was a teacher at 'Gawura', an Indigenous school in the heart of Sydney's CBD. Her husband was posted to Tamworth which is where she is now - working for Hillvue Public School.
Enjoy!
Please feel free to send your children's fabulous works of fishy art to us so that they can be displayed in the blog!!
And while we are all busy thinking and drawing.....let's hope that Venus will appear in all her former glory as soon as possible.
Stay safe. Stay positive!!
Lucy
NOTICES:
A reminder: The Bold &Beautiful swim has been suspended until further notice.
If you are out and about at this time, please take care, be safe and adhere to recommended guidelines.
Summer Badges
We are aware that some people missed out on their hard-earned summer badges last weekend. Assuming that it is safe and legal to do so, Anne and Ian will be at the benches from 8 until 8.30 am on Saturday so that you can purchase your badges. Please bring the correct money and maintain personal distancing protocols.
Note that, it is OK to log your swims while the B&B is suspended, but there will be no badges awarded while the suspension applies. This will affect the winter badges if (as appears likely) the suspension is not lifted by the end of winter.
B&B Blog
In an effort to keep you engaged during this difficult time our blogging team want to hear from you. Our bloggers have free reign during this time, so if you have photos or anything interesting to share, you can send it to our bloggers at [email protected]. Show us how you are spending your time in isolation. What is your favourite B&B memory or photo? Tell us why you love the group so much. We will share your stories and photos on the blog over the coming months. Please show your appreciation of our blogging team by commenting at the bottom of the blog. It is also possible that, in these difficult times, you have a need that someone in the B&B community may be able to fulfil (eg do you need somewhere to live, are you isolated and need help with shopping, or have you run out of toilet paper?). Feel free to ask in the comments at the bottom of the blog. Above all, stay safe.
Bluewater Cafe
Like all restaurants, Bluewater Cafe has had to limit its activities to takeaway only. I am informed however that they will still provide the B&B breakfast for you to takeaway. The new owners Jane and Kwan have continued to support the B&B so let's try and help them through this difficult time. Find more details on their current menu and operations on their Instagram page @bluewatercafemanly (Facebook page coming soon).
