A seal has been hanging around - look for the crowd on the path and then at the rocks. It looks like one of the rocks. Chad got footage of it swimming as did Captain Nicole. I hope they share it.
The sea was more benign today than it has been. Quite murky and a lot of sea weed. Lovely swim though. I did not photograph them but at Shelly there was squad training by some young swimmers. They were so fast. I am glad they can keep up their training while pools etc cannot open.
On the issue of squads, I am thinking that the highly trained athletes should take care to avoid the risk of infection at the Olympics and if i sign up and enough people bow out, I might make the Olympics! Elizabeth Bradbury
I will post some photos here but cannot upload the blog if I include too many so please see fb for more photos.
With the Cannes Film Festival postponed, I took photos on the ramp as a substitute for the red carpet
Pretty excellent people came by on their way to the swim
Tape is a reminder to activate or deactivate core. That tape is such a good invention that I wonder what people did before. Suffered I suppose
too hard for me to get a photo of the dusky so this swimmer pointed it out
IMPORTANT MANAGEMENT NOTICE
Bold and Beautiful acknowledges the growing concern and need to implement procedures to stop the spread of Coronavirus. We also acknowledge the many advantages ocean swimming provides to both physical and mental wellbeing. As such, currently, the B&B swim is proceeding as normal. This situation may change, depending on future circumstances.
We request that all swimmers inform themselves about the COVID-19 virus, and evaluate the potential risks involved in swimming.
The following guidelines are based on advice from the Commonwealth Chief Surgeon and the World Health Organisation.
COVID-19 has no friends, and everybody can contract the disease, however people in the “older age groups” or with pre-existing health conditions have a greater likelihood of serious illness or even death. No one has immunity to this disease. We all as individuals have a public health responsibility to try to help keep everyone safe.
For these reasons we would like all swimmers to please practice the following:
- Overseas guests.Any swimmer with cold/flu like symptoms or who has just returned from overseas to remain at home and away from the swim. The current advice for overseas visitors is 14 days self-isolation. Avoid bringing just arrived overseas guests to the swim until after their 14-day self-isolation period
- Social Distancing. Enjoy your pre and post swim coffee/catch ups whilst practicing ‘social distancing'. Maintain at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing. When someone coughs or sneezes, they spray small liquid droplets from their nose or mouth which may contain virus. If you are too close, you can breathe in the droplets, including the COVID-19 virus if the person coughing has the disease.
- Respiratory Hygiene. Practice respiratory hygiene. Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately. Droplets spread virus. By following good respiratory hygiene, you protect the people around you from viruses such as cold, flu and COVID-19.
- Wash your hands frequently. Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water. Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands.
Please bear in mind, whilst you think you might be fine, reportedly, around 80% of people don’t have symptoms so you could currently have Covid-19 and not be aware. Please if not for yourself, respect the guidelines for your fellow swimmers, some of whom would be very vulnerable.
This is a fast-developing situation and we will continue to monitor and update as required.

B&B Badge Collection
Given the current situation there will be no badge ceremony on Sunday. Summer badges will be available for collection at the benches (100m north of the surf club) from 8am to 9am on Sunday. Badges are $10 each and we would appreciate it if you bring the correct change to minimise the handling of cash. Thanks for your understanding.
Crayweed Update
Finally some good news. Divers from SIMS report that the crayweed at all sites in Cabbage Tree Bay is doing very well after the storm. All weed reported virus free!
What I have been reading
Simon Winchester's book Their Noble Lords. How to tell a Duke from an Earl. About the Peers who get to make laws in Britain not because of qualification to do so but because of birth. Fascinating
