With a little more TIME on our hands, ( which are cleaner than they have ever been before) I found myself chatting to friends (on line) about the number of emerging "silver linings' and how this can help us feel grounded when other parts of our lives are changing at a pace.
As a way of balancing, rather than avoiding the complex times evolving day by day.
So here are some ideas...We have more TIME for early swimming at Manly with the B&B
It was a gorgeous morning, the water was warm and once through the weed, the swim delivered a sense of peace and allowed a moments repieve from the noise of 24/7 life by surprise.
TIME to chat
TIME to show people the actual distance that is now the famous "1.5 metres"
The management team are keen for all us to spend a it more time focussing on 2 things, in order that we can continue to swim as a community;
- practice social distancing (1.5 metres)
- be mindful of allowing a good pathway through our 'gathering' in order that other locals using the boardwalk for dog walking, running et al have plenty of room
Spend more TIME appreciating our beautiful beach
Spend more TIME smiling
Spending some extra TIME setting a gorgeous time and having a family dinner
More TIME to play cards
More TIME to drink responsibly.....:) and cook good food
and more TIME to enjoy conversation with our grown up children ?
More TIME to read beautifully composed and soul giving writing like
"The getting of wisdom: a letter to my daughter, by our very own B& B swimming Julia Baird SMH 21.03.2020"
to quote from it we can all appreciate the time to
'Find friends with true hearts and love them long and loyally.'
THANKS FOR YOUR TIME and the Manly Express who workshopped this idea last night and this morning ...XXX
and take time to stay well.
B&B Badge Collection
Given the current situation there will be no badge ceremony on Sunday. Summer badges will be available for collection at the benches (100m north of the surf club) from 8am to 9am on Sunday. Badges are $10 each and we would appreciate it if you bring the correct change to minimise the handling of cash. Thanks for your understanding.
Bold & Beautiful and Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Bold and Beautiful acknowledges the growing concern and need to implement procedures to stop the spread of Coronavirus. We also acknowledge the many advantages ocean swimming provides to both physical and mental wellbeing. As such, currently, the B&B swim is proceeding as normal. This situation may change, depending on future circumstances.
We request that all swimmers inform themselves about the COVID-19 virus, and evaluate the potential risks involved in swimming.
COVID-19 has no friends and everybody can contract the disease, however people in the “older age groups” or with pre-existing health conditions have a greater likelihood of serious illness or even death. NO ONE has immunity to this disease. We all as individuals have a public health responsibility to try to help keep everyone safe.
For these reasons we would like all swimmers to please practice the following:
- Any swimmer with cold/flu like symptoms or who has just returned from overseas to remain at home and away from the swim
- Avoid bringing just arrived overseas guests to the swim until after their 14-day self-isolation period
- Enjoy your pre and post swim coffee / catch ups whilst practicing ‘social distancing'
- Restrain from physical contact with fellow swimmers
All in all, please practice social distancing and good personal hygiene; wash your hands, sneeze/cough into a tissue or your elbow and keep your hands away from your face as much as possible.
Please bear in mind, whilst you think you might be fine, reportedly, around 80% of people don’t have symptoms so you could
currently have Covid-19 and not be aware. Please if not for yourself, respect the guidelines for your fellow swimmers, some of whom would be very vulnerable.
This is a fast developing situation and we will continue to monitor and update as required.
