We seem to focus on external indicators of worth. Many of us are beguiled ourselves with the acquisition of such external indicators... Possessions, awards, 'likes', even access to an experience from which others are deprived.
Imagine if none of that really mattered. Instead there was a single indicator of value. One so paramount that it overshadowed all others. What if this indicator was so intrinsically part of who you are, that no matter where you went or what you did it was always right there with you... Like a kind of aura, a glow.
And this indicator of worth was based solely on your ability to bring a measure of joy to wherever you were, or at least reduce some suffering that was present before you arrived. An accumulative indicator of that shift you affected, wherever you had been.
It was very subtle, but noticed by people who were paying attention. And between those who payed attention it mattered, so there was an acknowledgement of this value. An acknowledgement as subtle as the indicator itself.
Wouldn't it make your world a better place if this way of valuing each other was actually the case?
What if it is...
And you just haven't been paying attention.
With love,
Andrew Maher.

The Monthly Dinner – 11th February 2020 – Guest Speaker
The first B&B monthly dinner for the year will be held on Tuesday 11th February at 6.30 pm at Bluewater Restaurant. Our guest on the night will be Julianna Kadar, who is a PhD student at Macquarie University. She is also a member of the Homeward Bound Program which is working to build and upskill a network of 1,000 women in STEM over ten years. Julianna will talk about her study on the Behaviour of Port Jackson Sharks. Her work involves finding out more about the activity patterns of the Port Jackson shark using bio-loggers. Her study includes both captive and wild experiments and aims to analyse distinct shark behaviour signatures. Her talk will cover variation in behaviour, social networks and migration of our lovable PJ.
Please book early for this event as it is sure to be popular. The cost of the dinner is great value at only $25 a head, which includes shared entrees, and a selection of mains to choose from (including a vegetarian option).
