Happy New Year everyone! The swimmers above unknowingly swam through the shark alarm for half an hour this morning during their double! We all know it was probably a calm and docile Grey Nurse Shark anyway but apparently the lifeguards have to set off the alarm if a shark sighting is reported. Don't let that put you off swimming this year folks. Most of us will say swimming with The B&B regularly is one of the best things we've ever done!
I missed the sunrise today but caught Big Al advising swimmers about the rip coming in and to swim wide and come in between the flags.
Karen, Shelley, Kathy, Veena, Val and Edwina are here to swim in the new year and shake away any dustiness from celebrations. Numbers were low compared to the last few days but it was a lovely swim albeit a bit chilly for this time of year.
Justus, Craig and friends get ready to swim too. Air temp is also quite cool this morning but the surf has calmed down and there aren't any blueys around...
Mr Bruce Baird looking very fit and tanned!
Awesome blogger Elizabeth Stewart. A great asset to this swim group.
Veena, Val and Shaun jumping with joy at Shelley. Wishing these guys and all of you the very best for 2020. It's been tough for a lot of you but made better by this 'lifesaver' of a swim...
...and it was Janet's birthday today. This 'Pocket Rocket' reached the grand old age of 60+10 today (permission granted) and swims 'Doubles' almost every day, rain, hail or shine. Our swim really is the secret to everlasting youth ;-)
More legends, Sue and Greg with Roger who is legally blind but swims around 5/6 kms most days.
Lovely Daphne who has recently got her Bronze and is often seen on Life Saving Patrol at Manly Beach
These are previously used photos of mine as I didn't see the Grey Nurse or Eagle Ray a lot of you sighted but this is what they probably would have looked like as the water wasn't very clear!
Back at The Surf Club I catch Anne H, Elizabeth, Belinda, Leandra and Clare looking very bright and cheery.
I line swimmers up for a last post-swim photo but am told to get in myself. Birthday girl Janet appears to be stamping on me!
HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone. Keep swimming and showing up. Remember our swim fulfils most of the requirements for happiness: feeling part of a community, daily dose of exercise, lots of laughs, getting up early, immersing yourself in nature as well as all the therapeutic benefits of an ocean swim!
love and hugs
Lainey
