Conditions didn't look very nice today, quite bumpy with a wind about, and plent of people arriving to either try for a summer badge or do the regular swim. I was told the 6km would be a slower than normal one because of the work involved swimming against the wind and waves, and it looks like a handful of people braved it out. Congratulations everyone!
A large yoga group in their zen this morning, so much noise around with the hustle and bustle of the walkers, dogs, chatters, and they stayed in their zen
A really hot day forecast for today, total fire ban and smoky haze, becoming our usual day in summer now for 2019/2020. The water apparently was 21.6 at Manly, so no problems getting in , a lovely change. Sharks, in particular the Grey Nurse Sharks, are becoming a regular sighting which is fortunate. They're a protected species and normally quite harmless, but like with all wildlife I wouldn't want to push the boundaries.
This pic doesn't capture very well what it's like swimming through the ash to get into the bay , but it's there. It saddens me to think it's either the ash from a koala's home or someones home up north. There's quite a bit of it too blowing down.
Then I got a message from Roger , explaining his early morning swim. Notice Lyndall's lovely reach.
Some new people waiting to sign up, at least a dozen newbies I"d say, no stats sent yet.
Charlie and Peter-
Joop and Joop Junior are visiting from Holland and join our swim whenever in Sydney
Everyone was happy to be swimming today, all smiles!
Pauline did well with her goggle sale box, made $390. See Ian tomorrow if you want any left over, money goes to Royal Far West.
More smiles before they even saw the marine life:
Besides a large plastic bag Jenny and I removed from the bay, here are the fish and ray photos:
A swimmer flew past me with flippers, so many bubbles!
Lots of jellies today that were soft and non stinging, best not to open mouth underwater, there were so many!
Then I bumped into Leisa, Wendy and Belinda who joined in the photo with Jenny.
I showed Belinda and daughter Babs where to find the eagle ray sleeping:
Finally I saw a beautiful baby enjoying Uncle Adams cuddles and games, baby Harvey;
Exciting News from Dorset Sutton
I’ve just been advised by SIMS Project Cray team that they are extremely happy with the Crayweed planting opposite the Bower Cafe ...there are now over 100 Craybabies growing within about 10m of the mat! And we only started planting in March ...
This answers the question B&B swimmers ask me every day...how are they going !!!
So ..here’s the answer !! This is the start of Crayweed regeneration ..and to the bringing back of crays to CTB! And so many swimmers helped in the planting to be part of the process to help make this happen !!
Have a lovely weekend everyone, stay safe on the roads over the Christmas break. See you in the New Year!
Edwina.
