There was a lot of freestyling this morning. It is of course the style of choice for our swim across Cabbage Tree Bay, though I have seen the odd backstroker and even a butterflier or two, which I reckon is a fair achievement in the ocean. Here's some freestyling shots - bonus points for spotting the translucent jellyfish...
A freestyler with some fish in the foreground
I managed to get a few people shots this morning. Heading into the ocean...
At the point with some dark clouds overhead.
A few of the Drinks' express swimmers at Shelly beach.
My goal today was to capture shots of people exhaling. Constant exhaling when your face is in the water helps to relieve your body of tension while swimming - if by contrast you hold your breath then C02 builds up in your lungs and blood stream, decreasing your aerobic capacity. Sounds simple, right? Hard to photograph though as it turns out!! Here's what I managed to get.
When I took this next photo I thought it was the exhaling 'money shot'. On closer inspection I think the bubbles are from the arm pull through. But I'll let you, dear blog readers, make up your own mind.
The visibility was pretty good in patches today, and there were lots of fish to see. But getting good photos of these fish is not my forte, here's a selection of what I got.
As I've mentioned before on this blog, I often swim with a song in my head, and this morning's song was "Breathe", by The Prodigy. Sure, it's a bit of a throw back, but I think quite fitting for today's theme as the chorus is kinda dominated by inhale and exhale. Take a listen for yourself.
While we're in the music section, I couldn't resist including Freestyler.
And one from Sia, although I don't think "Breathe me" has anything to do with swimming. Lyrics are a bit heavy but it's a good song.
Stats:
Temp - 21.4
People - lots (especially in the 7am group)
Newbies - I'm guessing 15 or 20
