There's so much more to this swim than the swim! Today we had loads of sharks hanging around... the toilet block of all places! Post-swim we had lady swimmers asking Merrilee to 'bring them some weed down to the swim tomorrow' (Milkweed) and Greg cavorting around in womens dresses! And all before 8.30am. The Bold and Beautiful soap opera isn't half as interesting as The Bold and Beautiful Swim group!
The morning started off like this with 18 degrees out of the water and 21.4 in. The surf had calmed a little and early swimmers reported clearer water and plenty of Duskies!
I had to watch Booty Camp this morning with my gammy knee. Couldn't join in. I did happen to notice Gayle cheating a little bit when Jen wasn't looking...As you can see here. (Standing instead of squatting, walking instead of running, that sort of thing...;_)
Here are Sue, Greg and Kelly about to set out at 6.20am on their first lap of the bay. Phil. Martin and Ian will go a bit later.
Some of the 6.30am swimmers who kept directing me to look at the little bow on Serge's budgies. At least that's what I think they were asking me to look at...
Sprout Daily aka Murray was taking photos of early swimmers today too. Check out his, they're really good.
Sunrise at 6.24am today but it appeared above those clouds 10 minutes later
Ali and Mel enjoyed their early swim. Mel is just back from an amazing time sailing from Italy to Corfu with Nicky K and her cousin, Mikey.
Happy 1st wedding anniversary (a few days ago) to this lovely couple, Peter and Annie! Here they are cuddling up before Annie's swim.
Some of my running friends had a swim today, Louise, Raelene and Lee. Lee was one of the 6 newbies today.
By 7am the sunshine was blazing as we headed in. Ian and I reckon around 250 swimmers today. There will be at least double that tomorrow for Anzac Day!
Backing out to take photos of swimmers coming in I was suddenly out of my depth. The rip pulled us out quickly today too!
Happy faces at Shelly
It was a first swim for Chase and Jade from Manly West. Excellent effort girls.
Maisie on the right is swimming the English Channel as a relay with 7 other swimmers. Well done Maisie!
Angela introduced me to her friend, another newbie
Lovely to see the Duskies near the toilet block and pool on the way back.
and a cute Fiddler Ray
The Silver Sweep and Mados closer to the point were out in force
I didn't see a Giant Cuttlefish today but this super huge one was hanging around a few days ago.
He wasn't scared of me one bit and flared his tentacles when I dove down for a closer look!
Swimmers and a shark in the same shot!
The Crayweed seems to be quite healthy. Dorset would love it if swimmers could swim over it and let him know if they see any fish feeding on it or anything unusual. He'll report on to the team at Operation Crayweed
Back at The Surf Club there were lots of laughs as usual.
Napoleon is a bit shocked when Edwina whispers to Merrilee, 'Remember to put The Weed in your bag tomorrow".
Please Note: MILKWEED can be a treatment for skin cancer if administered by a Naturopath ;-)
Here is the 'Tranny' mentioned in the title although at the risk of being sued I must mention Greg was cajoled in to putting on the dress by his 'friends'. I bought a few clothes to recycle today and this was the dress that was left. (It's still available if any ladies, or indeed men) are interested...!
IMPORTANT NOTICE – ANZAC DAY
As usual, Anzac Day, on Thursday, will be a major event on the B&B calendar. We will be meeting at the surf club as normal but, please try to arrive early, allow time for parking, and wait on the beach if possible to avoid congestion on the walkway. At 7 am we will gather on the beach for a short service before we enter the water. For safety reasons, we request that when you reach Shelly Beach you wait for the “Let’s go” before returning to Manly.
Due to the large number of swimmers expected on the day, we urge you to take particular care in the water. Remember, we are not racing; we are here to enjoy our swim. Please be mindful of our swimming etiquette and avoid swimming on top of other swimmers. If you do collide with someone else, please stop and make sure that they are not injured. Let’s make this a great day for all involved.
The Monthly Dinner – 14th May 2019 – Guest Speaker
The Next B&B monthly dinner for the year will be held on Tuesday 14th May at 6.30 pm at Bluewater Restaurant. And can make you better parents, better partners, even better lovers. Own your hook, claim the wall, master the benches. Learn how to tell your story in your own best words, and why your way is the best way.
Please book early for this event as it is sure to be popular. The cost of the dinner is great value at only $25 a head, which includes shared entrees, and a selection of mains to choose from (including a vegetarian option). Glasses of beer or wine and desserts are also available at the special price of only $5 each.
