On what were otherwise perfect conditions, today's swim (and Jac Shell) had a stinging end. This team of extraordinarily brave swimmers show off their welts which were inflicted, oh so close to home! Heading around the point into a barrage of waiting blues, there was nothing we could do but to brace ourselves for the pain! (The blogger was stung too but lives to blog the tale!)
It had started as a superb morning in this sacred piece of paradise, with the coy sun hiding until it was awake enough to bless us with its full presence.
She eventually came out and so did all the bright colours - spotted everywhere you looked! Rashies, cossies, boards, thongs, vests and bags!
Benji is guarding Ian's colourful red thongs. He told me to steer clear though not in those words... rather.. in words which could not be repeated in this family friendly blog.
Jasper is guarding his lovely owner Beverley in his brightly coloured high vis vest. He had a rather traumatic event happen as a fairly young pup so suffers from anxiety. He is gorgeous to view from a distance but please don't pat him.
Colourful bags and
The A Team- John, Denver and JP
Robert is a surfer and knows all about fish! We want him to write the blog one day! He's warming to the idea - though a tad slowly. Persistence persistence persistence is the name of the blogger game! 😆
Greg and Shaun's attire wasn't overly colourful but their comments certainly were!
and these guys couldn't keep a straight face!
Alan and Rachel's complementary colours looked great against the sandy backdrop as they headed towards the water which was glistening in all its green and blue glory! Yet again beckoning all to join it on its journey to Shelly!
We all succumb and immerse ourselves in its sparkle!
Some people can't contain their excitement at the journey ahead. Should definitely join the Australian waterpolo team! That jump was awesome!
These girls had just heard the exciting news that their visas to India had come through! Bags not telling them their flights are actually booked to Sri Lanka!
While this rashie modelled by Michael (I hope I have your name right!), wasn't brightly coloured, it was seriously cool! The photo doesn't do it justice!
To Shelly they do go!
Around half way, Peter, on his way back from Shelly, very kindly warned us all to swim wide ! He'd copped a nasty sting to his face by a collection of blueys floating in some rubbish! We hope you are ok, Peter!
Some swimmers are spotted practising the 'Annie point'! See Gemma's blog from Sunday. Apparently Gemma was practising 'Annie's Point' too but we missed that photo opportunity!
Swimming over so many fish along the way! Where's Lainey when you need her photography skills? Oh, that's right! On the plane to Byron! Enjoy Lainey!
Blowing bubbles.
JK demonstrating arm lift and graceful re-entrance. Don't forget to alternate occasionally with your right arm to JK. You might get to shore quicker.
Shelly. The beach. Not the smiling swimmer!
Jesse and Taylor looking lovely - pre blogger instructions.
Jesse and Taylor - after silly blogger's silly instructions! They did this in style too!
Back on shore and Tim supports Bronwen post nasty bluey sting!
Bernhard copped it too, along with water on the camera lens, making him look elongated!
This surreal photo was created with water still on the lens and depicts first time swimmer, Julie, with JK, Bernhard and Bronwen! Welcome from Wagga Julie! We're glad you didn't get stung!
Babewatch Ali had it so right in her blog yesterday - you never get sick of this fantastic swim! I also never get sick of the amazing collection of stories you hear from the amazing collection of people who converge on the beach each day! Here are Maria, Simon and Scott aka Bear, Sym and Birdie. They told me that Birdie had a good story to share! And he did!
Birdie was riding to work at 4.30am one morning when he got attacked by a bat. Luckily, there were people on hand to help including someone from the newspaper. The newspaper employee asked him to fold his arms across his chest for a photo. Then to Birdie's shock and horror they printed it in the newspaper upside down! We thought we'd replicate this today! Birdie got a batman tattoo soon after! What a great sport!
I never did find out why his nickname was Birdie.....swooping magpies????
Have a great week!
Lucy
