The next B&B monthly dinner for the year will be held on Tuesday 14th August at 6.30 pm at Bluewater Restaurant. Our guest speaker on the night will be B&B swimmer, Brendan Maher. Brendan, who describes himself as a very average swimmer, managed to overcome a chronic shoulder injury and swim the English Channel in July 2017. He will speak of his motivation, training for the swim, and what it's like for the average swimmer to attempt a marathon swim. This talk will be an inspiration to all of us who count ourselves in the ‘B Team’ (or even the Zeds!).
The cost of the dinner is great value at only $25 a head, which includes shared entrees, and a selection of mains to choose from (including a vegetarian option). Glasses of beer or wine and desserts are also available at the special price of only $5 each. Numbers are limited, so bookings are essential: To avoid disappointment and secure your spot pleasebookHERE.

A red light might be a frustrating interruption to your day. Or, it could be an opportunity to get your windscreen cleaned.
And who couldn't do with a little more clarity? Wash away all the grime that separates you from the better view of reality...
Everything has a purpose, everything is perfect, this is a perfect universe, and you are perfect in it. Even those imperfections that you're told you 'have to love'. Guess what, you don't 'have' to love them, because... They're actually perfect too.
I know saying that will make some people angry, and those of you living in a prohibition on perfect might say, "Aha, but what about that grime on the windscreen Mister Everything's-perfect-monday-blogger... Huh... What about that?"
Well, what would you rather do? Sit there getting frustrated waiting for the green light, or discover a mechanism through which a better world can suddenly, even if just for a single instant, manifest right before you're eyes?
And then, maybe even realise... 'Wow... I think that was probably there all along. And the red light was just waiting, ever so patiently, until I noticed'.
A real screen cleaner of a morning today. Check it out...

Winter Badge
Although the water temperature may be a little colder than you might like, there are several advantages of swimming in winter, including flat seas, good visibility and no bluebottles.
Perhaps the biggest advantage is that you can also qualify for a winter badge by swimming a minimum of 20 times between 1st June and 31st August.
You must also swim in at least 7 different weeks. If you manage to do all of your qualifying swims without a wetsuit (or other thermal enhancing equipment), you will also qualify for the coveted WWW badge (Winter without wetsuit).
So start now, and don’t forget to log your swims to qualify.

A total of 219 healthy looking swimmers (incl. 4 newbies!) showed up for a warm-ish morning.
While air and water temperature were up, under-water visibility was down due to northerly winds overnight.
Annie stopped me to tell me about the cuttlefish graveyard that had emerged in the bay:
Indeed, the bay and the beaches were littered with cuttlefish remains ('cuttlebones') this morning - farewell my tentacled, shape-shifting little friends..
JK observed a minute of silence for the departed cephalopods:
Meanwhile, in blog tart corner, Mary and Wendy posed for a photo..
.. and Matt was back for a hot shower in between circumnavigating the planet:
As expected, Nicky pulled a big crowd with her tales from the seven seas:
Top blokes:
Lainey had been running all night..
Down the ramp we go:
Unlike JK, I'm not enjoying the part of 'grumpy old man' - but what's the deal with everyone taking off early to Shelly these days???
Anyway, whilst playing catch-up, I happened to bump into the largest cuttlebone I have ever seen in my 6+ years.
Here professionally modeled by Peter:
Seriously, I thought someone's flipper had hit me in the face!

I was up at the crack of dawn this morning to watch the eclipse. Without my DSLR camera with long lens or the perfect setting I was positioned wharf side, full of bright lights (from the path). What a fantastic opportunity to take a picture of this event than with my iPhone in a bright place. Luckily my iPhone has video mode or I wouldn’t have caught the rare glimpse of a lost cow jumping over the moon right as the eclipse happened. I’m sure those using long exposure would not have caught it that’s for sure.
Manly was buzzing with early risers eager to catch the moon. The swim was very busy today today too.
I attempted to capture people at their best angles today...
JK’s best angle
If these here guys just looked at me they would have realised I was blogging today. Some people like the off centre, not looking at the camera angle..

People say you cannot notice the changing of the seasons in Sydney. If you swim in the ocean, you can. Here we are approaching the last month of winter with its calm seas, dropping water temps and an increasing number of swimmers hitting 20 swims for their badge.
But lots enjoying the swim and the chance for an enjoyable cold shower in public
WOW
Happy birthday Zoe - third from the right. What a great way to celebrate your birthday. I think she may be a triathleter with this wetsuit

What I have been reading
The Nowhere Child. About an abducted girl who is raised in Australia then tracked down 30 years later by her brother . Good read
also reading Victoria The Queen. A lively book about a well known queen. It really brings the time to life. Good reading.

Winter swimming!!! Yes it can be cold and you suffer from cold bottomitis during the day, but it also comes with its pleasures. The water is nice and clear, it's only your fellow loonies dedicated enough to get up in the dark and head down to Manly Surf Lifesaving Club and you get to see spectacular sunrises just like this.
I am on a quest to get a "nice" photo of LesBubs. Here she is with Ian.
Jo, Val and Lainey were doing their best to keep warm.
Sheena and Karen - looking ever so stylish as always.
The WOW's have been replaced by the FAF's - two Fi's and Annie.
Cheryl and Lisa.
Finishers of the 6.30 swim as we entered the water.
It was a lovely morning for a swim once the sun had come up.
Yes, it was before 7am for these two lovelies - don't let anyone tell you anything different.
I bumped into these two in the middle of my swim - they said they'd never had a blog photo in the middle of their swim before!!
Have a great day and see you winter swimming soon.

The community spirit of the BnB has really been highlighted for me over the last few weeks. With the sad passing of an old friend of the group and the recent health battle of one of our fellow WOWs. The love and friendship of the group has really made me feel warm inside knowing that I’m a part of such a special and caring bunch of people who will go far over and above for each other in their time of need.
This morning I attempted to capture this.
Shelley wasn’t quite feeling ‘herself’ today at Shelly and needed carrying. That’s what friends are for.
Definitely not herself...
BnB friends can help with new technology...
Or a tight wetsuit needing some extra oomph to be zipped up...
Wilf was in a predicament where he couldn’t get his cap on! Lucky there was help nearby.
The sunrise was spectacular as always, reminding us that it’s a new day and to be grateful for every one you have.
BnB swimmers are friends of the ocean, today the discussion was about plastic waste and how we can do our part to reduce our consumption. As well as picking up rubbish as we swim.
Nebbie Liz was loving the friendly people down at the swim but was reluctant to get in the cold water after her lake swim in 24 degree water back in the UK

We must be getting used to winter when 9 degrees in the air and 15.6 degrees in the water don't seem that bad. We are more that half way through winter - the days are getting longer, and do you remember those teasing 20 plus days earlier this week? It won't be long and we'll be back to hot days, summer swells, bluebottles........
But meanwhile, today was just gorgeous! Missed the 6:30s by a few minutes, only managing to capture them from a distance as they negotiated the swell.
While it felt like groundhog day on land. Apart from quasi-newbie Retha (former regular) between Anne and Shelley.
It's been colder, but also lots warmer
First dog of today's blog, doing his bit for Plastic Free July. Love your work, buddy.
The sunrise provided some very pretty photo opportunities for your viewing pleasure
Here are some of the 6:30s coming out of the water, including my former fellow student and colleague Maxine who is celebrating her birthday today. Happy birthday, hope the fam spoil you rotten.
Some very keen Manly LSC members about to do some ski training - no wonder they do well in competition.
Here is another newbie, Peter. Hope you had fun this morning.
Come 7 o'clock the main peloton head down to the water
Neptune aka Wilf exuding a divine glow
Annie and Elizabeth getting their happy on
Bathing in the golden glow, how gorgeous is the soft winter light!
Milling about the point - a sea of pink dots
I was very happy to observe improved water clarity and felt optimistic for some little friend sightings along the wall en route to Shelley even though it wasn't great yet (I predict fantastic visibility for Monday).
Like this one, even though it didn't want to play today.
These
I had so much fun I didn't get to Shelley before everyone left, affording a few photo opportunities
Ian mentioned a wobbegong spotting around Shelley so I went looking for it and found these instead
Not far away form Shelley along the scenic
Possibly the same PJ, closer to the pool
Not a PJ
ditto
Manly LSC ski paddlers
The amazing Alison of the WOWs has been knitting up a storm and making us beanies. We love you Alison!
Guess whose bum!
Colby the love sponge
This from my backyard, proof that Spring is on its way
What am I listening to? While writing the blog I listened to a very new Courtney Barnett performance (yesterday) from the Pitchfork festival in Chicago. Most enjoyable and I can't wait to see her shows next month.
But for your listening pleasure, a departure for the marine theme - something that reminds me a little of our struggles with the Northern Beaches Council. Cat and Mouse by guitar legend Ry Cooder from the album My Name is Buddy recorded in 2006
On a serious note, several of our number are dealing with health issues at the moment. I'm sure the best wishes of everyone are with these friends of ours, willing them to full recovery
Stats:
Water temp - see photo above
Swimmers - number appears to be increasing
Newbies - at least 2
Enjoy the rest of your day.
