Sunday morning and we were greeted with a very grey murky morning and two prominent signs.
The reason.
Yesterday at around 10 AM a great white shark attacked and killed a seal at Queenscliff.
07:01 and JK still in discussion on whether we hit the water or not.
Sue doing her best seal impersonation.
Some Superheroes arrived in case the the lifesavers in the IRB needed backup.
On return pretty well everyone was accounted for with minimal casualties.
Meanwhile, Matt celebrated his 2,000ks with the customary arch and all his friends.
An action packed morning.
137 swimmers started in 20 degree water and there are still no definite figures on how many returned.
Meanwhile, this week’s highlights:
Monday. Andrew weaved his magic spell once again with words of wisdom and some great shots.
Tuesday. Smoke on the water and Jenny captures a beautiful hazy sunrise .
The yogis give thanks and Merilyn just glows.
Wednesday. Lainey reveals all about the frivolity and squeals of laughter that emanate from the women’s change room.
James is awarded “Catch of the Day” again.
Between Derek the “Nicest Guy in Manly” and James "The Catch", the rest of us poor guys are just left out in the cold.
Thursday. Deanna celebrated the last day of Autumn with another 116 intrepid swimmers.
Friday. Roger made a rare guest appearance as the blogger.
This was episode 87 of his idiosyncratic outlook on life.
Saturday. Anne's Wild and Woolly Morning - Winter felt as though it had well and truly arrived.
The Southerly swell finally gave us a few waves.
At least the water temp was 19.5.
I will be putting my wetsuit away for another week, I don't want any seal confusion going on out there.
WINTER BADGES
The Winter swimming season is finally here!
Although the water temperature may be a little colder than you might like, there are several advantages of swimming in winter, including flat seas, good visibility and no bluebottles.
Perhaps the biggest advantage is that you can also qualify for a winter badge by swimming a minimum of 20 times between 1st June and 31st August.
You must also swim in at least 7 different weeks. If you manage to do all of your qualifying swims without a wetsuit (or other thermal enhancing equipment), you will also qualify for the coveted WWW badge (Winter without wetsuit).
So start now, and don’t forget to log your swims to qualify.
