Well today was the day for the annual solstice swim. Winter solstice was two days ago but it was designated to do the swim today. About 72 people turned up at 6.15 for a 6.20 departure to head to Shelly beach naked. Most people swam with costumes around their necks or shoulders. I’m told one sorry bloke left his on a rock for the surf to wash it away. Not saying who and I do have footage of his exit to the surf club sans costume , but it’s too risqué to share.
I dare say roger was kept busy selling the badges afterwards, everyone was pleased to be an owner. Not a bad piece of artwork either
Some pre solstice swim shots and at Shelly too.
They were brave souls entering the water at 6.20, pretty dark and only 8 degrees in the air. Water temp was 17.8 but felt colder to me thanks to a light wind and colder air temp.
There were 5 new swimmers today and I heard one of those ventured out with the nudies.
Heres Marie a young Canadian traveller who got up at 4.30am to get public transport here by 7am.
She swam with brian and I after having a small battle with surf and swell. Thanks brian for gentle encouragement, singing sweet tunes and getting her through the point .
Didnt see a lot of marine life but the blind shark wasn’t hiding for a change . I missed a wobbegong at the point and had a lovely swim in the aquarium at Ed’s rocks.
Simon , one of our Monday bloggers, lead the way for some of the 7am swimmers . There were 290 total turning up to swim today with 72 in the nudie group.
More 7 o clock people battling the cold and some dumping waves. In the photo below jo in the middle is a newbie.
This little trio were comparing sightings at the point.
After the swim everyone was washing themselves down in hot water from home, rugging up in their woollie outfits and drinking hot coffee or tea. Or whatever!!
In the above photo Paul had his niece visiting from qld plus his granddaughter joining in the fun . Wows enjoyed their badges and the sunshine afterwards.
Don’t forget to stay on track for your winter badge. Swim 20 tines in 7 different weeks and always tick that box. Our next swim dinner is July 10th, four of our swimmers are sailing around the world and telling us of their planned adventures. Please see yesterday’s blog to click a link and book. It’s always a good get together at Bluewater to mingle with fellow swimmers.
I bumped into Andrew and Greg chatting outside manly wine. This dear little puppy is only eight weeks old and adorably soft and shy. Started whining with all the attention so I left them to go home.
Last but not least the best way to warm up after a swim is to join our local bakers Facebook page- staple bread and necessities. Order your goodies every Wednesday and buy fresh bread and elaborate pastries straight from the oven on a weekend. It’s a sheer joy and extravagance that we call necessities.
hope you all enjoyed your solstice swim and winter swim. Until next time, enjoy your weekend 💝 Edwina
