Today was Nat's first day with the swim group after her recent surgery. No swimming for another two weeks or so but being back by the sea and returning to normal routine is important in the recovery. And wasn't it great to have her big smile and positive character back chatting amongst us all. Most people know she's a selfie queen and rightly so being as photogenic as she is. Here we are making our way to the club and again afterwards at Bluewater for breakfast.
There's been a bit of talk about the turtle being back in the bay and the dusky whalers are breeding and swimming around too. I heard at the beginning of the week someone pulled a shopping trolley out of the water. Elaine then removed some balloon tie from a turtle and the next day I removed this long garden hose with the help of a newbie Amanda. Plus the gents undies from the other side of the bay I threw onto the rocks.
It's a reminder to us all to be careful of what we're using and doing every day and to remove anything big or small, it all helps our marine life. Sometimes our mouths too :) When we pulled the hose out we also saw this tree branch floating near the rocks, it's now going to become a home for some sea life.
I saw a bit of marine life today, no turtle unfortunately:
Someone has been playing with rocks under water and I like it!!
Today I found Roger minding someone's soft, fluffy dog and Matt brought his pooch down too:
Bianca and friend swam early and at the other end I saw just a few of the 285 people I"m told turned up today. Sorry I met none of the 6 new people.
Once everyone gathered we celebrated two birthdays today: Lucy and Sophia and didn't they enjoy the splash and joint "let's go"
post swim pics, Milly is Lucy's first born, wouldn't tell me what she had planned for mum's birthday-
These two boys were so cute going off for a surf-
Dangerous current signposted today and we've heard the swim group will be thanking the surf club for their recent diligence in supervision and recent rescues. Thank you to the life savers and management for warning us when conditions are tricky:
before the list of news posts from management, Lisa Boyle is in the snow in America! While we melted the other day she was unable to drive to a mountain resort because of the heavy snowfalls.
Water temp: 20.7!

Help country kids learn how to surf!
Each Wednesday in November and Thursdays in December we are looking for volunteers to help Royal Far West’s country kids learn how to surf. These children are from all over the state, for many of them it is their first time to Sydney and for most of them it will be the first time they have surfed! The age range is 9 years to 17 years. . The times are 4pm – 6pm once a week. If you can volunteer some afternoons in that time (it doesn’t have to be every week) please contact Anna Bowden on 89668597 or email [email protected]. A working with children check is required
As the Summer long distance swimming season approaches, management thought that it would be a good time to clarify what it takes to earn a badge. Three long distance swims are on offer:
· The 6 km swims are held every summer Saturday morning generally starting with the 7 am swim. The first 6 km swim will be on Saturday 2nd December.
· There is a 10 km swim once a month over summer also generally starting with the 7 am swim. Dates for these will be announced in the blog. The first will be on December 16th.
· If these swims are too long for you, you can try a Triple Manly to Shelly swim any day during Summer (distance 3.5 km) from 6.30 or 7 am.
You will earn a badge if you complete these swims and log them in iLog. The system will only record authorised 6K or 10K swims that are logged on the appropriate days. Badges will be presented at the Summer Badge Ceremony in March. If you are unsure of the routes and protocols for these swims, please ask at the desk before you swim. When swimming these longer distances, we request that, for safety reasons, you stay with the group. We also request that you do not swim in dangerous conditions. The quest for a little cloth badge is not worth putting your life at risk.
Enjoy your swimming.
