Summer Solstice today and what better way to mark it than with an ocean swim. It is a whipple amazing way to celebrate. This is an expression from the Oxford dictionary word of the year considerations but unlike "milkshake duck" or the winner, "youthquake" it is one that applies to swimmer. It is defined as: Extremely impressive and downright astounding. "Whipple amazing" is a level unattainable to most. As with all of these newly coined words, once hey make the dictionary, the young people who started it off no longer use it but I like it.

What I have been reading
I read The Life to Come by Michelle De Kretser which is Australian and is set in part in Sydney. it had a lot of good things in it featuring 5 stories with one character Pippa linking them. I am now reading The Idiot by Elif Batuman which is warm and funny - a first year university student culture shock of uni, academia, other students, but most funny are the quotes from her first year Russian language learning book. I remember learning French and Silvie going to the pool. This one had Nina the physicist looking for her boyfriend who had gone to Siberia to work in a lab there. An actual book for a course.

Proposed 10km swim on a Saturday to be advised.
Note: Swimmers for 10km are required to bring their own food and drink requirements to be left at Manly.
ALL swims are dependent on suitable ocean/weather conditions.
