It was a spectacular morning. Even though the breeze threatened to intensify, most of us enjoyed a calm crossing before the choppiness set in. The water temperature was a refreshing 16.8 - perfect for anyone who was feeling tired or sluggish or unmotivated. I know after working a 12.5 hour shift yesterday it was exactly what I needed to bounce back. The clarity was an additional bonus, however I didn't see terribly much but there were reports of large rays and Port Jacksons at the point. It was one of those mornings to appreciate. The fact that we were all able to swim and enjoy the sunshine afterwards should never be taken for granted. Two of our very special and much loved swimmers, Wilf Deck and James Partington are quite unwell and in Manly Hospital. Both are happy for the B and B community to know, and I'm sure they would both appreciate your well wishes and positive thoughts for a speedy recovery. We hope to see you back at B and B central soon guys!
Caught red handed! Les Bubbles is completely innocent - I was a witness.
Peter, Penny, Lainey, Candy and Henrietta. Candy was one of the original B and B swimmers. Welcome back!
The preparations begin for the 7 o'clock team
Cheryl, who swam earlier so she could get to work, gave Alison, Candace Jane and Mandy a quick briefing: cold, clear and calm! Just how we like it.
Emma, Shelley, Lainey and Michael
Shelley, Stu and Suzie from the 6.30 Drinkwater Express are all smiles as they tell their 7 o'clock friend what a great swim it is.
David, Marco, Danny and Brian
Some of the 6.30 swimmers. They all looked very refreshed and invigorated after their swim
Nick and John had a great swim. John ( the shy retiring figure 'hiding' behind Nick) let it slip that it was his 500km swim. He didn't want any fuss or fanfare, but surely a mention and photo in the blog to acknowledge this amazing achievement was appropriate. Well done John!
It was a very calm and gentle entry at 7am.
Nick rushed down to me as I was waist deep in water with this gorgeous heartfelt note for Trish, his beautiful wife who is feeling a little low after having a procedure done. We all hope you feel better soon Trish.
Gemma, Michael, Jane and Emma
Jac with another of her fun costumes.
Everyone was very cheery as they started out
And by the time they were at the Point, Emma and Lainey were completely exuberant.
A lovely wave from everyone at Shelley. I'm not sure if they were saying "hello" or "hurry up" as they were feeling the effects of the 16.8 degree water and desperate to swim back for the coffee and sunshine.
Gemma and Rainer
Greg and Candace
Jan, Alan and Lainey looking gorgeous as they finish their swim.
Jac finished off with a handstand. Very impressive Jac!
Emma, Sky, Anne, Iain, Mark and Sven aka the Fabulous 6. They had a fantastic 6.30 swim and were enjoying soaking up the sunshine as the later swimmers finished.
Always fun-loving, Holly, Mel and David
Brian, Bernhard, Danny and Sam. Great photo guys!
Louise and Candace
Welcome home Penny and Bill. They have spent the last year in Japan, enjoying the culture, food and wonderful people, whilst learning Japanese. It is so good to have you back. Georgina, Jane, Di and Alison enjoying a coffee listening to some of their experiences.
I hope everyone enjoys the remainder of their day.

Monthly Dinner – 12th September 2017 – Guest Speaker
The next B&B monthly dinner for the year will be held on Tuesday 12th September at 6.30 pm at Bluewater Restaurant. The guest speaker on the night will be Dr Tanya Evans, whose talk is entitled "20 places you should visit even though you may never have heard about them and probably can’t pronounce them"
Dr Tanya Evans is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Modern History at Macquarie University, President of the History Council of NSW and editor and author of Swimming with the Spit. Tanya’s talk will demonstrate that we B&Bs are not the first people to amble down to the beach and enjoy our invigorating morning swims. Sydney has a fascinating history of dynamic community swimming organisations. Learn all about this fascinating subject on the night.
The cost of the dinner is great value at only $25 a head, which includes shared entrees, and a selection of mains to choose from (including a vegetarian option). Glasses of beer or wine and desserts are also available at the special price of only $5 each. Numbers are limited, so bookings are essential: To avoid disappointment and secure your spot please book HERE.
