For those wondering, Apricity entered our language in 1623 when a very chilly Englishman, Henry Cockeram used it to describe a love for the warmth of Sunlight in Winter.
The Oxford Dictionary provides a contextual sentence which possibly raises more questions about other words that have fallen on paths less travelled.
“These humicubrations, the nocturnal irorations, and the dankishness of the atmosphere, generated by a want of apricity, were extremely febrifacient.”
Needless to say the Apricity evident after the swim was pretty darn obvious.
Whatever your inclination for the love of warmth, its ever so gradual arrival was most welcome.
The sunshine was a prime player when it finally arrived, ushering in the remnants of what had been a good southerly ground push with only half a metre at best making round our corner, though the horizon still showed the lumps of the fading swell.
Well and truly South and with a good 16 seconds on the intervals and a mid rising tide made for spectacular PB(personal best) conditions for those monitoring their time pieces.
The 18 degrees and 5k/h zephyr offshore WNW winds bumped up the glorious conditions to somewhere just shy of incroyable.
The crew looked light on but we were just well spread with over 150 brave souls testing their resolves.
The was some better conditions today with visibility in the several metre range, though the sediment was still stirred and may take a week or so to ebb.
In a bid to assist upper management, I have taken this shot to show the appropriate kick off location at the point with John to the left of the sun and 2 other keen to be compliant persons nearby.
Everyone else was keen to get as close to the suns warmth as possible.
There was definitely a degree of Apricity on show this morning.
Once past the point though, things got decidedly chillier.
Whats the chance of two Sparkles in one photo. Michelle and her brother Michael lighting up the dark side of the bay.
By Ians reckoning we had 190 this morning.
While I was waiting for the shot above, I looked down and there were three cuttlefish meandering around, with this guy looking decidedly worse for wear. My guess is he got a little too close to the sharp end a hungry somebody with Calamari on their mind.
And this little friend doing his best to match the B&B colours as I dived down for a closer look.
I was busy admiring the sheet of glass conditions as team Sparkles roared past.
A magic finish to a special day at the bay.
And a special welcome to Team Italy that came down to test the water this morning. The brother and sister team, Gabrielle and Valeria, I'm sure will be back.
Have a great week everyone and let's get Apricity back in the lingo, it's a great word.
Ciao for now.
And now a word from management for the next Dinner on roads less travelled.
