Gorgeous conditions. I have never seen the water so clear. So many fish, lots of duskies and so much more. 14 newbies, about 310 oldies, water 21 degrees and air temperature about 17.

Special B & B Monthly Dinner – Swim with all your Heart

The next B&B monthly dinner will be on Tuesday 9^th May at 6.30 pm at Bluewater Restaurant. The dinner precedes our “Swim with all your Heart” event on Saturday 13^th May and we have two special guest speakers. James Partington, one of our B&B swimmers will tell of his personal experience with heart disease. A very fit James, at the age of 37, was diagnosed with “a bicuspid aortic valve, moderate regurgitation and an aortic aneurism of over 50mm”. What the ?? Come along and find out.

James will be joined by Dr Geoffrey Tofler, who is Honorary Medical Director of Heart Research Australia, and has over 20 years’ experience as a clinical consultant cardiologist, including 13 years at Harvard Medical School Hospital in Boston. Professor Tofler will talk about “How to keep your heart healthy”.

The cost of the dinner is only $25 a head and includes shared entrees, a selection of mains to choose (incl a vegetarian option), corkage (for byo wine only) and a little thank you for the staff. Glasses of beer or wine and desserts are also available at the special price of only $5 each. Saturday 29th April- So many reasons to celebrate!

Well I'm calling it-  a top 10 swim today!  
While any swim is a good swim, some days are just magical-  crystal clear 20.2 degree water, a stunning sunrise, an abundance of marine life and smiles everywhere you look.

Firstly, congratulations to Wills and Kate on their wedding anniversary today.
So great they could join us.

It feels like only yesterday they were married, but it was 6 years ago!
Here they are on 29/4/2011.

Kate really seemed to enjoy her swim-  maybe it was the duskie display slightly north of the point (she said she saw at least 30)...
or the port jackson relaxing at the point, or the aquarium like conditions.

And half an hour later as the 7 o'clockers head out.
We had at least 320 swimmers today including 9 lucky newbies...
what a day to start a new addiction.    

No newbies in this colourful group-  they're already well addicted.

Trent and Mark were there,  fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service and Australian Working Dog Rescue Int.  
They are doing a 10km swim for charity- good luck guys.  Donate at Facebook/swimforcharity.

Friday 28 April 2017 Fabulous swimming conditions

What a difference a day makes indeed. the conditions were warm (although the breeze is getting a bit of chill in it) and the water was very clear. I read about the dip below 20 degrees yesterday and it gave me pause but what a fabulous swim today. If only the traffic would stay off the road for me like it did for Mr Pence then I would not arrive so late! It makes me think of a move to Manly and not of a big concrete road or tunnel or both though. 

I was grateful today that I am an invisible middle aged woman. While the lycra was holding up well, the zip on my swim suit burst but no one noticed. Phew. There was so much to focus on in the swim

Thursday 27 April 2017: What a difference a day makes

Well its official - winter is definitely just around a the corner and this morning proved it with our first swim of the year where the water temperature was under 20 degrees - who do we talk to about warming things up again!!!

Despite the brisk chill in the air the water was actually relatively warm, and although there wasn't as much to see as other days, the sun peaking through the clouds made the morning spectacular.

James was one of two new swimmers today - Ann made sure he knew all about the rules - hope you enjoyed the swim James.

The women of the wall are always up for a chat and a laugh.

Getting in was a little chilly, with a few waves to jump just to add a little excitement.

There's always a bit of time for a chat and to meet new people at Shelly.

Pauline and Ian do so much for B&B - we really do appreciate it.  The debate this morning was whether Ian's cap needs to be retired - he thinks it gives him "beach cred" - Ian, you don't need any beach cred - you have plenty for your tireless effort.

26/04/2017 - Quiet, Beautiful Post Anzac Day Swim

 

A much smaller group came down to swim today on this absolutely gorgeous, sunny Wednesday morning, around 440 less than yesterday! Ian and I estimated around 170 swam in 20.5 degree water with 2 newbies. A bumpy swim with a few waves and rather murky water. Still awesome! In photo above The Drinks Express enter the water and Booty Campers run in the foreground as the sun rises in our favourite corner.

It's Jon's birthday today . A lovely couple, B&B regulars who divide their time between Manly and Hong Kong. Jon and Little Sarah started swimming around the same time as me 6 years ago!

The Women of the Wall appear! We chat about our upcoming Bali Snorkelers Safari trip coming up soon!

Nice to see Eva back for a swim. She returns to Czech Republic in a couple of months time :-(

ANZAC Day memorial swim today. Lest We Forget.

Glorious sunrise over our beautiful beach today to mark the occasion.

This is Greg on the Bugle, very special day for him. 

A few of our well known swimmers Bruce, Greg, Lisa, Kendelle, Sean and Kathy each played a role to pay respects, bugle the last post and sing our National Anthem.

24/04/17 - Pearls Before Swim

You know that metaphor about the oyster and a pearl?  The pearl being created by sand irritating the oyster - a good thing resulting from a bad situation etc...

I’m not sure the pearl is actually the end result of this process. Really the result is the feeling of ease. Which, of course, was the goal in the first place.

The pearl is a by-product of the goal to go from what currently is, to finding what's possible. It represents the efforts made by the oyster in moving toward inner peace, layer by layer. The pearl being the doing, not the result. Given a constant state of ease, pearls would actually be absent.

The inner journeys to find peace in our circumstance are an opportunity to bring great beauty into the world.

Mornin' all. Inner Westies here. And what a gorgeous morning. 21.1 degrees in the water. Lots of swimmers - few newbies and oodles of jellies in the water. But luckily the non-ouch variety.

Pretty excellent swim this morning. Kate Baddock was swimmer of the day today when the fish were out. The sun was out. The water was warm and clear. The waves were breaking but softly.

A great way to start the day

 

 

Furthest swimmer is Paul Every. He is preparing for an extraordinary swim between the two main Japanese Islands, The Tsugaru Channel according to Google. I had not heard of it before but what an event. Good luck Paul. 

Even so, I think the only reason that Sue Marinan is not the furthest swimmer is because she has gone to New Zealand (may have swum there; I don't know).

What I have been reading this week: The Boys In the Boat about a team of rowers who went to the 1936 Olympics. Thanks for the tip Justus. It is a fabulous read about the preparation for the event but also the historical setting in which it occurred - west coast USA during the depression and Nazi Germany. And I didn't even have a particular interest in rowing but now I do.
