This morning was just plain old dreary. I think everyone felt the same, that feeling of "I'm here but I would much rather be at home under the doona". Unlike yesterday where the ocean was as flat as a tac and perfect ocean swimming weather, today the ocean looked a little messy, even though it wasn't what I would call choppy.
Jack didn't think so - he was my favourite story this morning, Jack paddled all the way from Manly to Shelly while Sophie swam, talk about a little legend.
The 6.30 mob did the early reconnaissance for us and reported conditions were not to bad, so nothing much for us to worry about - JK reckons he saw six jimbles on his way over to Shelly at 7am and I reckon I felt one but no welt to show.
Below the 6.30 crew head back into Manly after their early morning jaunt.
Back at the Surf Club the early morning chat this morning was about the best way to remove a bluebottle from your skin. Lisa suggested that we should put together a bit of a guide as over time the remedies have definitely changed. Sean had all the stories about picking off a bluebottle from Anne, while Penny offered some sound advice about how your fingers offer more protection than other parts of your body.
The talk here was about skipping the swim and heading straight to breakfast but yes, they did swim and were thankful they did - you never regret a swim in our beautiful ocean.
These two lovely ladies were captured leaving for the 7am swim.
And we caught up with them again at Ferry Bower on the way to Shelly Beach.
This is me and my lovely friend Maria - we love swimming and breakfast afterwards is always a chance to catch up on what's happening.
John Bond did well with the temperature this morning (it's all his fault when it's cold) - 17.9 degrees was quite acceptable. Here is with the lovely Sue who is recovering from her broken arm.
Here's Jack on his board getting ready for John Kelly to yell the lets go and head back to Manly.
Anne is part of management and does a great job keeping track of us all sending through the stats.
And these two lovely ladies (sorry didn't catch your names) finally made it into the blog - the reckon they always get left on the cutting room floor.
Finally Lou was making sure these two gents didn't get into too much mischief at Shelly - waiting for the crowd to go before heading back to start the rest of the day.
Thanks for yet another wonderful swim.
D from the Z's!!!

Staying safe
Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits. Also, if you have a bit more experience, keep an eye out for new swimmers who might need company. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. To read, or even download, click here.
