Jarrod and Mike could handle the 18.2 water temp today, as could another hundred or so bold and beautiful souls... Numbers have been down a bit this week though conditions have been gorgeous, if 'nipply'...
It was well worth getting down early with a beautiful sunrise at 6.07am this morning.
If you want to warm up before the swim think about joining the fantastic Manly Beach Running Club. Quite a few swimmers run with this great group including Paula, Eula, Louise and I'm bringing a couple down on Saturday to swim for the first time. We ran to South Curl Curl this morning...
Here are the 6.30am Drinks Express heading out.
and again...
Kat hasn't put her Winter ugg boots away yet...Here she is with John. It's her birthday on Friday. Last year we had a Bikini Swim. Kat and I will be bringing spare ones along to hand out to any willing guys! (Photos below of last years Bikini Swim, Rusty, Michael and Drinky looked particularly cute in theirs ;-) )
A pre-swim group photo. Not so gentlemanly (today), Jim Hudson jumps in the middle, blocking out Henrietta and Greg!
Debbie (AllthewayfromGalston) brings down a newbie Suzie, and some walker friends.
Look at that calm, smooth and stingerless water as the 7am crew head in!
Danny and Brian brace themselves for the chilly water...
John Forster never misses a day.
John Hiron followed closely by Caroline and Jamie...
JK isn't too impressed with Lips splashing him. Lips runs away from the camera for the first time ever!
Lovely Nat.
Charl and Kerri, brother and sister swim together today!
The sky with the layered clouds and sun trying to force through, was beautiful!
Stunning sun rays project on to our waiting pink caps at The Point.
JK is quite happy that people are waiting for the 'Let's Go' today as we do this in the B&B spirit of keeping safe and social! There have been a few too many swimmers not waiting lately.
Waiting at Shelly
k
The 'Women of the Wall' are a bit quiet today without Lisa!
JK makes sure 'The A Team' wait for the last swimmers to reach Shelly...
Wow!
Poppy the 82 year old legend on the left with a young legend Nat on the right. Poppy has ran every single City to Surf. Nat is superwoman bringing up 5 boys, working, studying blogging etc. On Saturday she did 13 workouts in 13 hours at her and hubby Vic's Crossfit Gym and raised a load for charity!
Inge swims with her sister Judith.
Lips and Lesbubbs must have beaten Dave and Scott today ;-) (Not that it's a race or anything.)
Sophie and her friend were watching the whales at the end of the swim. They were out there again today!
The water was a bit murky today so the underwater photos are from Sunday. It was exciting to see, (thanks to Shauny for pointing out) this large Eagle Ray off The Point.
Diamondfish over the flat rocks...
and this huge, friendly Groper at The Bower!
Last week I was lucky enough to swim with Manta Rays off Nusa Penida island, Bali.
Four in this photo if you look closely!
Gorgeous Clownfish whilst snorkeling from the beach at Nusa Lembongan
Butterflyfish at Crystal Bay, Nusa Penida
Update on Ed
A lot of people have been asking me how our lovely swimmer friend Ed Selby is. He is at Royal North Shore at the moment hoping to move to Manly Waters soon. He was in good spirits on Saturday when we took around fresh breads and pastries that he had paid for as a Thank you to nurses and staff. James Partington had baked them and they were delicious! We all wish Ed well and send him lots of love and hugs. Pancreatic cancer is the pits...
Ed in fitter days.
Have a wonderful day folks!
Staying safe
Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits. Also, if you have a bit more experience, keep an eye out for new swimmers who might need company. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. To read, or even download, click here.
