21/08/2016 - Don't blame it on the cold!

A nude blog was always going to be tough without well accustomed Rainer. And being a bit too conservative myself, I had to call on help from a relative visiting from the Ol’ Country, you know the one. So please welcome, all the way from our village in the mountains, where his name comes from, my cousin, 'Boruit'. 

If you see him around, introduce yourself, he is a very nice guy, just a bit misunderstood.

Today is beautiful but very cold.

Coldest day in all world of Sydney. One woman tell me that all member look 4 inches colder today.

One man say some other swimmer is 1 inch more nippy.

I do not understand so much Australian vernacular. I prefer learn good English like your Prince, Elizabeth.

When we get to point, Drinkyman tell people put on latest fashion accessory. Is called Drinky Bow Tie.

Different in home country where Bow Tie is when tongue poke out of neck. But today, no tongue. Is very nice.

Today many swimmer say is special occasion for feel no clothe on body. Say Is more 'natural'. I happy because learn new word.

But I tell my family they say me is crazy - in home country is only in special occasion need put clothe.

At Shelley, all swimmer happy but some complain have too much light and cameraman not handsome. But is okay, no one take photo of him.

 

Not everybody can make Drinky Bow Tie good

but some very experience

 

Drinkyman so generous, he give own Bow Tie to other person and now he have no fashion!

 

 

In every country, man with moustache so friendly and handsome.

 

 

 

But because cold, some of the men feel like object. 

 

Small object, like atom.

 

Return swim very beautiful. We see big moon and also small moon in sky!

Australia people so interesting for study – swim with no clothe then shower with clothe!

 

 

Here is all the winners, like Olympics with Skin Medal. 

Many also play in July. 

Like real Olympic in old Greece - winner can not wear clothe!

 

Next year, you can win too, no need do sport good, like Olympic Badminton player.

He's still learning English but he'll get there.

Although I was recovering from a self-conscious cold as was pointed out above, I managed to get a few nice photos of the other group on their way out.

And on their way back.. slightly different attire to the earlier mob,

 

And some were way overdressed!

 

But we did have special guest from hit TV Show Arrested Development - Tobias Funke - who is a 'Never Nude'. His presence made the day extra special!!

But all looked incredibly happy, especially when the coffee came..

 

Particularly happy were those who had just finished their 20 swims to get their much coveted WWW Winter Badge!

 

And speaking of highly prized medals, like the Olympics (although not in the same league as the B&B), make sure you look out for this one over the next few years -  she will bring home a few Golds in swimming for sure!

Saturday 20th of August 2016 - Every swimmer has a poem in em'

The day started with the discovery that the 'just past 6.00am.....we leave when we are ready B&B  group' are not Saturday swimmers, 

not this Saturday anyway ! We are only recent converts to the odd pre 6.30am swim so we needed ernest discussions varying on the theme of "will we or won't we?!?" go it alone.

So B1 and B2 braved the 6.10am waters....we were not going to miss out, despite it being our first day blogging! A bit of bounce in the waves and  some surprise weed greeted us on

entry.....however we can now highly recommend a duo swim in the empty waters of Cabbage Tree Bay.

B2 Motto is " You never regret a swim!' and she was right again!!!

 On return to the beach we were able to greet a couple of Drinks Expressers - basking in the sun!

 

JK had issues at Head Office (see furrowed brow), where he was holed up with a lonely flipper,  longing for its pair .....

Which was soon found....

The rumour is that the reunion was emotional ! Thank you to the saviour (you know who you are...we don't?) who returned it to shore!

You can't help but notice ...The lovely Soph and friend pondering the morning, waiting for their swim!

 

THE OCEAN - By Will G aged 12 (summer B&B er with a passion for Manly)

As I dive into the warm summer water, from the slippery rocks,

I see a school of Angel Fish, prancing like ballerinas on a stage,

Occasionally making sharp movements,

They are the princesses of the ocean.

 

The seaweed sways like trees in a Southerly wind.

Small crabs walk around their rocks, shelter and safety.

Looking for a feed like a shark, in a shoal of fish.

Swoosh , a small wave knocks all the colourful fish,

They somersault like boys hitting the water, for the first time in summer.

They regather themselves back in perfect formation.

 

 

The graceful blue gropers, smoothly swimming through the water, effortlessly.

Slowly the incredible creature glides , underneath the rock shelter, avoiding the next wave.

Bubbles make their way to the surface, releasing into the world above.

 

A force larger than all of us, is the ocean,

Changing everyday.

No two moments the same.

The ocean is my place,

The tranquility and excitement.

You never know what to expect,

Beauty in all its moods.

Friday 19 August 2016 - Seven Habits of Highly Effective Ocean Swimmers (and me, Wannabe Ocean Swimmer)

I have not been swimming for a while. I sort of forgot my routine and what I needed to do to get to the swim and then on to work. It is good to have good habits. I have been told that getting rid of bad habits can only happen if you replace them with good habits. So here is a guide. 

1. Be proactive. Get down to Manly for the BB swim. Do it as often as you can. Try different conditions and different seasons. And stretch so you can get the best out of your stroke

2. Begin with the end in mind. Look what  fabulous smile the thought of swimming to Shelly and back brings

Ross has lots of experience with ocean swims and is getting ready with some salve to avoid wetsuit chafing

4. think win-win. Here is Nick Martin and his entourage - swimming is a great family experience. Get outside and see the horizon


5. Seek first to understand and then to be understood.  Create an atmosphere of caring and problem solving. I have never swum outside the flags before BB. This group has lots of experience and they share it. It is a fabulous atmosphere swimming with BB

6. Combine the strengths of people though positive teamwork. See the management of BB. See the regular swimmers. Enjoy

Thursday, 18 August 2016 - Silver for Lisa but we struck gold

While we were all celebrating our own Lisa Darmanin's silver medal at the Olympics yesterday in the Nacra class, today the swimmers who took on the Bold and Beautiful swim from Manly to Shelly struck gold - a spectacular sunrise, nice clear, calm, warm water, cuttlefish and even some Dusky Whalers.

The sunrise was just spectacular as Andrew's 6.30 Drinkee's Express took off.

Meanwhile on the beach the Booty guys and gals had their yoga mats out and were finding their zen.

Another one of the amazing sunrise.

Jo was the serial photo bomber today.  It was Mike's 20th swim today, while Maria's second after three months in the US bonding with her new granddaughter.

Henrietta has lost her voice but still got out to swim and enjoy the morning.  Hope you are much better soon.

On a sad note one of our early swimmers found this just near the point - a bit disappointing that some fishers don't share the same respect for our protected waterway as we do.  We love having all the marine life, so if you see fishers in the protected area please make sure you report them.

Pete reckons he's one the smart ones with a wetsuit - being a www I beg to differ mate!!!

Here's Jo again with Maria and Greg, who has just returned from holidays.  Unfortunately his better half Sue broke her wrist so it will be a little while before she is back swimming again.  We wish her a speedy recovery.

Another spectacular morning with reports of two cuttlefish and the blue gropher near the rocks and six dusky's at the point as well as lots of other activity.  We really are blessed to live near one of the best spots in the world.

17/08/2016 "Celebrate good times"

Everyone loves a good celebration! Birthdays are extra special and today we helped Lainey celebrate her big day. 

 Lainey was swamped by her adoring friends and well wishers. Everyone loves Lainey! She does so much for so many, so it was lovely to be able to spoil her. She is such a special member of B and B. She has many talents - her photographic skills, gift card production, slice baking, event management and party organising are legendary. And her ease at making everyone feel loved, welcomed and appreciated are acknowledged by many.

My gift to Lainey was to relieve her from blogging duties. She has held the fort for several weeks as the other Wednesday bloggers were unavailable.

After her swim and breakfast at Bluewater, Lainey is going to celebrate her birthday by teaching a kindergarten class and spending the evening with Ted and the family 

As if the spectacular sunrise wasn't reason enough to celebrate, the B and B's were happy to find other occasions to commemorate

Annie was still celebrating her birthday which was yesterday

Management and the 6.30's are celebrating they no longer have to arrive and swim in the dark

Milly was celebrating by blowing kisses to passing walkers

I was celebrating because I had an opportunity to swim with my son Daniel

And Daniel was celebrating being surrounded by the WOW's. And a belated happy Birthday to Monica for Monday

Storchy and Sarah were just celebrating because they got to swim to Shelley

Every where I looked there were swimmers celebrating! There was a lot of joy to behold this morning!

 

And then we all celebrated Lainey's birthday with a song and splash at Shelley Beach. (I apologise for the big water droplet over the lens)

Lainey was very excited to take these photos on her way back from Shelly. I don't know how she does it, I haven't seen any marine life for a while.

 I asked other swimmers how they celebrate.

Simon, Steve and Nigel all agreed they go for a few drinks at the pub 

Mel was celebrating her 20 www swims

Caroline, Jamie and Dave are just as excited for Mel. They all agreed that celebrating with champagne, surrounded by friends and being close to the beach were crucial to a special event.

John liked to celebrate with plenty of food and a few cold ones. Greg initially suggested 2 bottles of red and then followed up with "Sex drugs and rock n roll". Greg you obviously enjoy a good celebration!

Smiling ear to ear, laughing, precious friends and lots of hugs are important for this group when they celebrate

I am celebrating being able to swim today. After working a couple of weeks full time.......(huge shock to my routine), I am able to get back to CTB and all my mates and enjoy the best start to the day.

Tuesday 16 August 2016 - Manly Beaming

Morning All and what a fine start it was. You are probably all wondering why it is that Tuesday's blog is so early when most of you are resigned to seeing it around midnight. Well, today I didn't swim but did walk as far as the path would take me. Having been struck down by an intergalactic lurgi that has come to rest on my chest I thought abstinence may be the wisest move.

On the downhill slide of a 6.30am high tide of 1.3m, and a sprightly get up and well matched sunrise at 6.32am, it was clear the southern Pacific is in the grip of a high pressure with nothing to beat up a swell nearby. .2 of a meter swell seemed to be the best Huey could dish up combined with an unusual 5 knot WNW offshore wind made for a near perfect sheet of glass. The swell is expected to remain from the south for the next week with a small increase through to Thursday then a similar day again Saturday.

Following the trudge from the carpark this morning, it was quite noticeable that the glare from the sunrise seemed unusually strong and on checking the Space weather I found NASA's AIM spacecraft did forecast arrival today of a 700KM  per second Solar wind which caused quite a geo-magnetic storm in the nether regions. It is nice to think that the worst of that for us was a warmer kick off than normal.

One would be forgiven for thinking we all slept in and woke up in Spring.

The morning crew seemed to have changed to a down under dog or perhaps early morning prayers. Either way it looked like no one wanted to get up.

The board of wisdom tells the story.

Strange being on the sideline this morning and not focusing on getting psyched up.

The big yellow ball beckoned as the 7 oclock call echoed around the walls.

More skin on show today than normal for this time of year but as Brian Cox keeps telling us, expect more of this. 

A different perspective than I would normally see.

Didn't seem like much time for a chin wag before the starters gun stirred the group to action.

On my walk round the headland I had to wonder how this huge tree on the cliff survived the blow when even concrete blocks ended up in the bay. 

Seems like a long way when looking from here.

With the gates up still on the walkway, this was the end of the line for me.

Just one lone halfway player today.

Meanwhile back at the ranch following a 6.30 swim I found Roger and Michelle discussing important world events.

As the 7am patrons drifted in with tide.

Seeing Nicks Sea Shepherd towel reminded me of a picture I saw of a whale armed to its teeth.

13/08/2016 - A squad of tribes

Have you ever noticed that there are tribes within this massive squad? Bound by customs, you will find them following their well-practised routines.

There is the Management tribe who industriously set up the information booth at B&B central. Just a wee bit chilly today.

The Club House trib head straight to the 'swimmer with hooks' when they arrive. . .

while others perch along the wall.

Joyously welcoming the day is a common trait among all the tribes. While some arrive with fanfare. . .

others slip in quietly.

Here is Jeff with, Charlotte, a friend he met last year in Munich, who is today's newbie.

United we head to the water for the invigorating swim.

A small tribe - today just these two - are those women who do winter in bikini!!

then there are those who almost never take to the water without a wetsuit!

Then there are the Point people. . .

and the Point-less people.  Can't believe they can see the clubhouse roof from way over there.

Shelly landing has three zones - East, Middle and Blog tart.

This is Sterling. He is part of a group who wear caps with the anarchy symbol on it and like to race. They are usually found in the Middle zone, however today he is dominantly standing on a rock down the Blog Tart end.

With supremo Blog Tart Lips absent today, it was up to this mob. What would you give them for effort?

These are members of the Drinks Express tribe.  Sarah, Annie and the fearless leader himself, Drinky. They do have another sub-title of the Crash Test Dummies because they bravely head out at 6.30am to test the water for clarity, temperature, degree of difficulty, and jimbles.  They are truly awesome!!

Generally spotted on the return journey are those who go fish hunting.  Not with spears, but cameras to capture the bountiful marine life in the bay. 

Then FINALLY, there is the A++ team who are valiantly aiming for a WWW badge - that is Winter Without Water!!

One: Tuesday Bluewater Badges

Johnny Plum got his 500.

Dorset Received the Mighty 1000/64 Badge and plenty of applause ... including wolf whistles.  His 'Family Tree Shield Collection' however, reflected the noise too much.  I found it nigh on impossible to carry on a conversation for the din.

And this morning @ 6.42 a.m, Rhonda collected her badge too .... congratulations to all    :)

Bolds reps were Brad the dad; surf patrol members Kerry and Guy, and Peta.  (And me.)

Which Guy?  You know - that guy Guy; the one who hangs out with that other guy - Marco.  At 5.51 a.m today, Guy resets his aquatic watch - which automatically sends out a GPS ping
