Heading down the hill to the swim, the very chirpy man from Marine Rescue was on the radio and he was looking on the bright side of a chilly winter morning. He jubilantly explained that, “. . .today we have six extra minutes of daylight!”. I think that is based on the time of sunrise and sunset at the winter solstice.
This was a little gem to hold onto when you notice that the water temp is a brisk 17.3 degrees!
Elizabeth, our charming Friday Blogger, doesn't seem to mind the cold! Summer or winter she wears that beautiful smile and no wetsuit.
In comparison, the Women of the Wall (WOW) are totally snug. Just goes to show we are a group that embraces everyone.
Some people are really excited about Saturday swimming.
Today the conditions were grey-blue meets grey-blue with a slash of pink.
Hanging at the point I found the eternally sunny John Bond. He recently bought a wetsuit so he could do doubles in winter. Now that is dedication!
Visibility was not fabulous, so no fish spotting today. And really as I'm not in a wetsuit, I have to confess with the chill factor going hunting was not top of mind. . .
Spotted at Shelly was an unusually shy Rainer with Marco trying to hold back the paparazzi.
Nothing was hold the squad back today. The swift turnaround at Shelly was testament to either the coolness of the water or the extreme desire to be at the top of the coffee queue.
Just the slightest of wave action on the return to Manly.
Then finally with coffee, bananas and layers of warm clothing there was an outbreak of self satisfied smiles.
Except for Shaun who didn't swim due to his recent nose job.
Rainer kindly explains how to check you where you are on the Winter Badge tally while instructing on the finer points of blog tarting which is to look casual in front of the camera - but don't look at the camera.
Have a spectacular Saturday.

MEN'S WORK
Men's Wellbeing invites all Sydney men to the next Common Ground men's group starting on 30 July. Common Ground is a program run by men, for men. Queensland based Common Ground has been running for 15 years. They say, “… we know it works, because men (and their partners) rave about the program. There are profound benefits when men have the opportunity to discuss with other men the things that matter, and have the conversations that they need to have.”
Anyone with questions please feel free to chat with Roger Harvey - who did the course in Byron Bay 14 years ago)
Common Ground will run it’s program on the Northern Beaches over two weekends: 30-31 July and 20-21 August. If you know of someone who might enjoy a new men's group why not let them know? For more info - talk to Matty on 0419 172 890 or email [email protected]
