Breaking news! - Check out the message below from, Queen Jules@The English Channel
Hello fellow B&Bers and bloggers, I am Lexie White aged 10.
Monday 27th June, my brother Luca and I were invited to write today’s blog. I think it takes heaps of courage to wake up and be psyched enough to get yourself down to the beach as much as you can! So you B&Ber’s are awesome!
Most people think the swimming is the hardest part but I can tell you now, from my experience it’s the days you miss that are when all the action happens. in 2013, My mother swam the same days, every week without fail to complete her Winter Badge. But one day she chose not to go and that happened to be the day the whale came to Manly! I mean, wouldn’t you feel annoyed ☹

After the Shelley swim, many of us buy a warm drink from the lovely Manly Point Café and aren’t they good? Imagine not having the convenience of Manly Point Café, without which we would have to walk all the way to Manly Wine. Us hurried swimmers may not have the extra time, so I think we should give a special big thank to the amazing baristas at Manly Point Café.
Why do I love the beach so much you ask?
Well at the beach you get sucked into a new and cheerful atmosphere. You can forget your worries and stresses and just hang out with your friends and admire the beautiful ocean. Before the swim I always see many things around like little dogs or young children with boards. This always excites me and reminds me why I’m here and what I’m trying to achieve. We’re all our own type of superhero you know!
Below I have a couple of things you can try and do in your next B&B’s:
- Pat some dogs! All of us see them and say aww but hey why not show your appreciation by giving them a pat!
2. Meet a new person! We all see some people we might vaguely know so why not say hello?
3. Finally if you’re a racer, find a friend and race them to Shelly! Or if you’re a “marine spectator” why not look for a new animal you haven’t seen before?
So enjoy your next B&B swim and have a nice day!
See you all soon,
Lexie ☺
P.S HAS ANYONE SEEN MY WETSUIT???
Luca here,
Doing these swims are a great start to the day, as many know, and it takes me a considerable amount of willpower just to get out of bed! I also look forward to walking along the cold sand in the morning, before and after the swim, the hot chocolate after I have rinsed off later.
WINTER BADGE
I have done one other winter/cold & beautiful badge (2014) and unfortunately I couldn’t do last years as we went away. I am also planning on doing a summer 6km badge this year too and maybe a WWW in the future…
I also congratulate others on their badges and I have seen some jackets literally stuffed with them.
A (SMALL) WEATHER REPORT
If you haven’t noticed (perhaps you aren’t swimming enough) we have had little swell for the past week, even with the forecast for 3 metre waves at Manly, which was only visible on the horizon (on Saturday). Yesterday, however, while I was looking on the BoM (Bureau of Meteorology), I spotted THIS on the swell chart….
Large swell off Kangaroo Island (pictured above)…
…Don’t worry though, as this shouldn’t affect the Bold and the Beautiful swimming ☺
Hopefully next time a make a blog, I will have an under-water camera of my own. I enjoy taking photos, so I can’t wait!
See you soon, Luca
☺☺☺☺☺

It's that time again. Winter is here ... and so are the winter badges. To recap; Winter swim season runs from 1 June to 31 August. To qualify for a winter badge, you must:
- swim at least 20 times during this period
• swim in at least 7 different weeks
• log your swims
Clarity on the WWW badge. Please be aware that to obtain the coveted WinterWithoutWetsuit badge, the only parts of the body where wetsuit material is a permitted covering are the feet (booties allowed). Apart from the feet, the rest of the body must be in non-wetsuit material. Don't forget to check the "without wetsuit" button on the login screen
Why not give it a try? Any questions - email Ian: [email protected]
BE NICE
Also, a reminder that the philosophy of the B&B group is that we are a group activity - and that swims are only to be logged for swims made between the hours of 6 am and the final 7 am swim (or double or triple or other sanctioned swims). Swims are not to be logged outside of these times for social and safety reasons.

Staying safe

Remember that there are no badges for scaring yourself silly! While it is great to extend your boundaries, it is important to know your limits. Also, if you have a bit more experience, keep an eye out for new swimmers who might need company. Do read these excellent tips on staying safe in the surf. To read, or even download, click here.
