Brrrrr! I'm talking about the air temperature! Soooo cooool down at B&B Central this morning. The good news is that the water temperature had crept back up from 16.3 to a balmy 18.1. Still not enough for me to jump in today.
Plenty of swimmers turned up for a dip in the ocean, past the seaweed right at the point, over to Shelly (noticeably cooler) etc, etc. Here's a collection of the photos from today's swim.
First The Joker
Yep, when asked to take a picture of me DWSS takes a pic of himself. Clearly an amateur photographer. Everyone knows you dont try to get photos looking into the bright sky, it doesn't work! Back to the photos.
Cake stall still going strong!
Ted sporting his warm hat (and his 'friend' err?.........)
Go get 'em while stocks last PINK ugg boots from IGA $15. Best warm winter gear you'll ever buy!
'We've just met' Was the answer when I said to these two 'Come on, cuddle in and get warm'
Now this is a water bottle. Summer esky filled to the brim with hot water for your apres swim warm shower.
The first intrepid swimmers (of the 7am crew) brace themselves for the swim ahead.
The sun peaking through the clouds
Heading into the Fireball
As it was dry blog today :) I didnt get to take photos at Shelly. I'm sure it was a little cooler over there.
Ok, so back by popular demand is 'My B&B story Part Two!'

…and I left us entering 2013, which can be classed as ‘The Year of the REAL Blog Spreddy’
Over my first few months, and causing mayhem with this guy….
I CREATED the notion of a spreadsheet which was being recorded of various people and their times on the spreddy. As we approached 2013, everyone was convinced there was an ACTUAL spreadsheet! Cries of ‘How many points does that photos get me?’ were heard, and getting on the blog
So in 2013 the real spreadsheet arrived!!!! Of course, I made up the rules about points, I monitored who and who wasn’t on it, and I would only share highlights about the totals occasionally.
IT WENT OFF!!!!! You would not believe what these ADULTS would do to become NUMBER ONE on the spreddy.
2013 was a big year for me and the B&B – I got promoted into the outer management groups and became a blogger!! I actually thought I had only been blogging for a couple of years but since 2013! Wow!
Extra points for getting on TV!!!
Here’s an early blog from me and Rainer:
http://pacificjules.typepad.com/pacific-jules/2013/02/230213.html
..and some photos from wild weather that day.
Inserting funny photos with captions became a past time
With Sarah’s cajoling the blogging became the norm on a Sunday. Oh and seaweed photos.
Even the fish had a voice.
I met lovely Sarah, well Sarah appears as a sweet person, but oh my – she is cunning! She was behind me joining the blogging team. She was also VERY good at gaining points on the blog spreddy.
She also made me do my first to Queensie swim. A Bolderdash! All the way I remember thinking “ Can I see the shark net?” What side of it am I? and “Oh my I feel sea sick!”. I actually have to thank Sarah as she is so ridiculously inclusive she supported me so well throughout it.
My nickname arrived too – having struggled in 2012 with some debilitating neck issues and disc bulges in my neck I thought my swimming days were over :-( After discussing my ’60 year old neck in a 40 year old body” with my Specialist – he agreed to my idea. Enter The Snorkel (and nickname Snorkles) and the ability to swim again! For the next year, I didn’t use my arms, but would kick like mad and keep my neck straight and looking down. Spotting sea life became a great past time on those swims.
Winter 2013 brought us the B&B ball
I took part in Winter Without Wetsuit for the first time - brrr brr brrr.
I was excited about getting photos of mine into the 2014 B&B calendar too. I'm sure the folks back home in the UK loved their copies!!
I enjoyed getting people to do silly things, to then pop those photos in the blog.
As we headed into 2014, we said goodbye to Jules and Michael as they headed over to the West and started life there (and another swim group to play in too)
In January 2014, I carried out my only ever 6km swim. Massive thanks to Elaine, Ted and Brendan supporting Corinne and me that day. Kicking only for 6km is tiring, and Brendan became my 'spotter' as us snorkellers do tend to wander off course a bit!
We had a Silky moment too!
Fast forward to the end of the 2014 and I became the 2015 Calendar Girl - Mary snapped me heading fast towards her (head down, looking down as usual) and gave me the biggest fright as I reached her! But the photo was taken. Note: appearing on the FRONT of a B&B calendar 10,000 bonus blog spreddy points).
2015 found the biggest laugh I had in a long while. Shaun ( the Jack Nicholson impersonator) played a six week practical joke on Rainer.
The blog here explains it and the big reveal.
Read the blog here:

2016 has seen me swap neoprene for Lycra, but I still enjoy time with our inclusive happy bunch of swimmers.
AND I never pass up an opportunity to wear something appropriate for keeping warm at B&B Central.
Thanks for reading! If you have got this far, you've done well (take an extra bonus point on the blog spreddy for that!!)
INTER BADGE
It's that time again. Winter is here ... and so are the winter badges. To recap; Winter swim season runs from 1 June to 31 August. To qualify for a winter badge, you must:
- swim at least 20 times during this period
• swim in at least 7 different weeks
• log your swims
Clarity on the WWW badge. Please be aware that to obtain the coveted WinterWithoutWetsuit badge, the only parts of the body where wetsuit material is a permitted covering are the feet (booties allowed). Apart from the feet, the rest of the body must be in non-wetsuit material. Don't forget to check the "without wetsuit" button on the login screen
Why not give it a try? Any questions - email Ian: [email protected]
BE NICE
Also, a reminder that the philosophy of the B&B group is that we are a group activity - and that swims are only to be logged for swims made between the hours of 6 am and the final 7 am swim (or double or triple or other sanctioned swims). Swims are not to be logged outside of these times for social and safety reasons.
