Reading through the blog in recent times, in particular the photo selection, I am a bit reminded of a quote from George Orwell’s animal farm: all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others. Rarely a day goes by without countless photos of our B&B celebrities: A-team, management including inner circle, Lips, Lesbubbles, Drinks, and some other self-proclaimed B&B celebrities (no names given here). What about the other, less prominent 150+ swimmers every day? Don’t they deserve equal representation in our daily blog? Without them, management wouldn’t have anything to manage, the A-team wouldn’t have anybody to admire them, and all other B&B celebrities wouldn’t have anybody paying them due attention.
I have therefore been thinking about ways to improve photo selection diversity, and came up with a couple of ideas (some maybe controversial, but nonetheless worthwhile considering):
Collect 1 dollar for each photo taken from the “celebrities”
- Use the proceeds for a blogger training course, with photo selection diversity being the key topic
- Or donate the proceeds to B&B for the next Christmas party
- Or donate the proceeds for a another good cause
Alternatively, set mandatory diversity objectives: for each celebrity photo, at least 5 photos from non-celebrity swimmers, non-compliance penalised as follows:
- First infringement: verbal warning from JK
- Second infringement: exclusion from blogging
- Third infringement: confiscation of pink cap and exclusion from B&B
JK might not like the last 2 proposals as it could deplete the pool of bloggers, but it’s just some ideas, your comments & views are mostly welcome.
Today's swim: still dark until 6.30am, water a bit cooler than the last days, also a bit of chop, but very clear and a lot of fish. Hugh turn-out, the 6.30am crew now nearly as big as the 7am main crew (good job, well done Drinks). Here my selection of today's B&B swimmers (leading by example, I tried to avoid any celebrity)
It was another enjoyable swim, with good company and the obligatory banter before and after the swim.
My final words for today are dedicated to our new B&B legend Dorset (warning to Dorset: you are now a celebrity, and with reference to the above, expect less photos from you in future blogs). When I told him some time ago, that I am going to run a marathon, his reaction was sort of “so what? I am going to swim 100k’s in 30 days and make it to the swimmer of the month”. Initially, I thought he was joking, but then he proved me completely wrong. I am not publicly disclosing your age here Dorset, but what you have achieved, is truly remarkable and deserves special mention in the blog, with appropriate photographic evidence. Congrats.
Have a nice day.
