Welcome to paradise - Manly style...... check out the stunning sunrise above, aren't we lucky to be living here! Hang on? Wrong year! This photo is from the blog 23 February 2012.
Now for today's swim...
On a more positive note, the maggots have been washed away!
Here's John Kelly, his best angle, taking the water temperature - 23.9 degrees. Felt like a tropical spa bath this morning!
Funnily enough no newbies this morning and John Bond cancelled the 6k and 10k swims, hmm, wonder why?
When John K heard John B had cancelled these swims, he gathered all 38 of today's swimmers together and suggested the Shelly Shuffle....
"This way" he said, and so we gathered our poncho's, umbrella's and wellies and we were ready to get wet!
As we hit The Point (that's the one by the first pole folks), gale force winds messed up John's Saturday morning hair do.....
Next decision ..Shocking Shelly or Half Way Hell? A few intrepid swimmers were tempted with trying the Half Way option.
Look closely ....did Stephen ever intend to jump in here ?? Thongs are not fins Stephen!!
One BIG splash later....
...and a few headed quickly back up the stairs.
Eventually, eight Bold's jumped in at Half Way, the Beautiful's continued the Shelly Shuffle.
Finally at Shelly, some of us had trouble removing our wet weather gear! Thanks Stephen C for this photo.
And now today's swim begins....
It was rock and roll, more rolling than rock, check out the body surfing at Shelly ....possibly a first?
A few swimmers even opted for a 'double'.. swimming 50m out from Shelly and back. Twice.
"We survived!" shouted Drinky, "Hang on......we haven't got everyone back yet, where are they going?" stated John K.
On the way back, Lips was heard to say "I'm sure we had more with us when we started out?" He was right.
A little crowd (come on there were only 38 to begin with!) gathered back at Half Way to watch the excitement of our last two swimmers enjoying the washing machine exit.
Capless Dave delivering a particularly nail biting performance.
We are happy to report, all 38 swimmers returned to South Steyne, happy and smiling ......imagine the surprise when half an hour later Snorkles emerged from the Escalator in her wet weather gear.
It is still unclear as to how many metres she actually swam today. "Lots" she was heard to say.
Another fun filled swim, shame on those who stayed in bed today - look what you could have enjoyed!
Disclaimer: No swimmers were harmed in the making of this blog. Special thanks to Stephen Coulter and his auto-enhance ..don't we all look great!!!
Stats:
Swimmers: 38 brave souls
Dashers: hmm?
New friends: NONE boooooo.
Water temp: 23.9c
Final 10km and 6km swim of this Summer - is now next Sat 02 March
