This is Michael's second international channel swim. He swam the English Channel in 2014 just two years after starting his open water swimming career with the Bold n Beautiful in 2012.
Michael swims to manage his bipolar disorder and raises money for Lifeline to stop suicide. More than 8 people a day die by suicide in Australia and 6 of these are men. Suicide is the biggest killer of all people ages 15- 44 in Australia. Lifeline takes nearly 1 million calls a year from people in crisis and saves an estimates 100,000 lives a year.
For this swim Michael needs to raise an extra $ 10, 000 to fund a Telephone Line Counsellor for Lifeline Northern Beaches. The Balgowlah call centre has 8 telephone counsellor chairs and last year answered 62 066 calls from Northern beach locals. It does not have enough volunteers to answers the calls at night and needs t0 pay people for this service.

Badge info:
The winter swimming season runs from 1 June to 31 August, and to qualify for your winter badge, you must:
swim at least 20 times during this period
swim in at least 7 different weeks
log your swims
To qualify for the WWW badge (winter without wetsuit) you must complete all of the above without wearing a wetsuit or any other form of bodily thermal enhancement (don't forget to check the "without wetsuit" button on the log in screen). Why not give it a try?
